I'm supposed to be banded on Tuesday morning. I've been on the liquid preop diet for 2 weeks. I've cheated a bit everyday. When I eat my Soup broth, I've had some chunky bits of the soup. It is mostly vegetables with just a very few bits of chicken or rice. I'm so afraid that this is going to make a difference in my liver. Should I just go ahead and cancel? I don't want to but, maybe it would be better. Oh, I did weigh today and and I couldn't believe it. I'm 19lbs less than I was when I started. What do ya'll think?

Just call your doctor and tell him. I really doubt the little you ate makes that much difference. You must however, follow the pre-op prep from now on. It could cause problems if you don't. Good luck. I think you will be fine.

Dear JulieKP, No need to take decision at your end, please consult with your Doctor/Surgeon first, then think what to do what not to do...

I wouldnt worry 2 much. I was desperate 4 some soild food too so had something similiar to you. I think if you a very high fat meal it might be a problem. I brezzed through surgery and post op and have only had a problem since my 4th fill ( it was too tight but after 4 weeks has settled) Strange though I am not getting the feelings of fullness that they talk about.goodluck to you and best of luck

I agree talk with your surgeon, and Look DEEP inside you. We all get hungry and have made bad choices in the past or we wouldn't be here, ok? But you know you're told "do this so you can get the band" and you say "Ok I WANT The band" and then you go and cheat. Why? Were you just NOT thinking? Was it habit because you were in diet mentality? Or do you NOT really want the band?

Am not trying to play head games with you! :rolleyes2:

I cheated on MY preop diet and didn't get the band. Talk about instant focus!! But you said "cancel" your surgery, not postpone it while you get on track, so that made me wonder.

If you really want the band, call your doc and fess up.

It's important to follow the preop diet but VITAL to follow the post op (and for me that one was even harder because it was "to heal"...vague compared to that band dangling before me as motivation for the preop one)

So once you know the eating was just thoughtless, diet mentality, a slip you can correct, and your surgeon says ok, then go for it. OR you may have some ambiguity that he can help address, or you may need to think it through some more.

Just understand you aren't the only one who ate something wrong preop. Use it as a learning experience

call your doc, and take it from there.

Okay, first thing, the reason I said cancel is because I am looking at radiation treatments for cancer after my lapband. By that time, school will be ready to begin again. I've decided that my bit of "cheating" was not extreme. I've had mostly some chunks of vegetables or chicken out of my Soup broth that I did not strain thoroughly. Surely that can't be fatty enough to make a big difference in my liver. I've made a big weight loss during the past 2 weeks and otherwise been very faithful to the diet. I asked my doctor's nurse last week if I could have minestrone soup when we went out for my husband's 50th birthday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
