I think it's perfectly normal to be nervous and think about the what if's. But, think about the what if's that come along with being obese and not losing the weight.

What if, I get diabetes and I lose one or more of my limbs? What if, I have a heart attack?

What if, I get so heavy that every step I take hurts and I can't take care of my family?

What if, I want to do something and can't because I'm just too heavy?

There are many what if's out there, I think the most important thing to think about is...is it the best decision for you. If you feel it is right for you then that's what truly matters.

No matter what you decide, I wish you the best of luck.

Keep us posted.

It's great that you have a surgery date! I'm still in 6 month pre-op program and wonder if it will ever happen for me. Doubts are normal. Let me just say that in my job I see many random things that most people don't. Something unfortunate can happen to you just walking out of your home. There's a risk in everything we do, just look ahead to when you are shrinking and feel awesome!

I have a 9 year old,6 & 5 year old..and a husband who is constantly deployed...what if,what if...bashful hit the nail on the head...my "What If" list was much longer if I didn't have the surgery as oppesed to "What If" list if I had it. I'm one month post op and have never ever felt better...What if this works? What if I can fit into those jeans I've been saving for over 10 years? What if I've just made the best possible choice for me and my family?

I had the same fears right before surgery but am now almost 12 weeks post op. You'll be fine. Worrying about the surgery was worse than going through it. I hated the week before I was so stress. Everyone I talk to says the same thing the week before surgery is stressful.

I have lost 40 pounds and this is the best thing I have done for myself. No regrets. None at all!!

Its natural to worry and yes, like everyone says, you will be fine.

But you have to feel ready. I made and cancelled about 4 initial consultations with my surgeon before I felt ready to go. It had to feel right to me and it took a while before it did.

I'm 10 months out lost 55 lbs. Was a size 2X tops, 18w-20w pants. Now prod to say XL-14 -16 tops, size regular 12 pants, and still losing. I wish I did this years ago, if I new about it I would have. Good Luck you need to be ready and want to do it. Prayers with you. I have no regrets....

Life can be a roller coaster of decisions and Only You know your mind. Ask yourself if what you are doing is Working for You? Ask yourself Why you wanted to pursue this in the first place. Doubt and second guessing yourself can be the products of worry and other people's influence. I wish you Peace and Health whatever you choose.

I think you may regret your decision not to go through with it even more. Do it now while you are young and healthy. Don't wait until it's too late and you wish you shoulda coulda woulda.

I feel the same way as you. Recently I have been thinking obviosely it must be meant to be, due to me getting approved by the insurance. So I will do it on July14th. This is the last straw I wish you the best of luck in your decision.

I had some doubts right before surgery, but then I went and looked at my pro/con list. The pros heavily outweighed the cons for me -- and now, 10 months down the road, I see that a lot of my "cons" just aren't as big of a deal as I thought they would be.

It's normal to be afraid and to worry. But, as a practical matter, this surgery is pretty low-risk (especially compared with, e.g. gastric bypass surgery). I bet that statistically, your chances of having the surgery go wrong are significantly lower than your chances of having health problems due to your weight if you don't have the surgery.

Plus, even if you could be perfect on a diet for a year and lose the weight, (and this is a statistic I actually have seen) your chances of keeping it off would only be 5%.

Hang in there! If you have a pro/con list that helps you work through this, I'd recommend that you bring it with you when you have your surgery. I did that and, while it turns out that I didn't need it, I thought it would help me to have it to look at if I thought I might chicken out!

Best wishes for you to make the right decision for yourself!

Catherine

I am scheduled to have the band in 3 days and I had a pretty bad freak out session earlier today. I say it is normal to stress out towards the end, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't go through with it.

I mean I am a believer in intuition and premonitions but try to decipher if your nerves and apprehensions are normal (cold feet) or if your "gut" (no pun intended h/h) is really telling you "don't do it!"

Good luck with your decision :rolleyes2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
