Haven't done cardio last few days due to shin splints. I just went to the grocery store yesterday and my right leg was killing me!!! Any tips on dealing with shin splints?

Hi everyone, sounds like everyone is doing great.

I am at 29.62 miles so far.

But on top of that I hit a major milestone, I had hid my scale for 3 weeks because I wanted to be out of the 300's so I finally got it out of the closet and my new weight is 293, so I lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a big deal to me.

Keep on logging those miles group!

Congratulations Jujuvee! I know you are on cloud 9 because of your weight loss. You must be proud of your miles logged for the week as well. Were you exercising before? What exercise are you doing for the challenge?

Hi Neon. I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Shin splints are so painful. The only thing I know to tell you is to rest for a while. You can use ice and anti-flammatory meds. Good luck!

I know we are already well into the month of July, but I just found this tread today and would really like to join the challenge. I am 9 days post-op and was cleared by my dr. yesterday to begin exercise. I think I think I remember where my treadmill is...and I have got a huge dust cloth ready to wipe it down, LOL! Can I still join?

Thanks, yes I have been walking since surgery but I also have been taking that into a slow 1.5 mile jog.

Never thought in a million years I would jog!

2911, Just wanted to say "Thanks!" for starting this thread/challenge! Some days it's been the only thing that pushed me to ride my 6 miles! I'm glad to say that I haven't missed a day yet. Thanks--we can do it! :scared2: Willow

Wow! Thanks Willow. You are right about this post helping us to stay focused. There are days I too do not feel like exercising but then I know that I must be accountable to this challenge. Your comment also will keep me motivated to complete the rest of the month. You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself. Keep up the great work!

Way to go JuJuVee! What an awesome way to finish. I was trying to pace myself to get to 50 miles. I never thought for once to exceed the goal. You have given me something to work toward.

Let's put our heads together for our next challenge.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
