July 2009 Mile Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hello. I would like to start exercising and my preferred method would be walking. I have a treadmill that currently is not being used. I would like to change that and the only way I can get motivated, is to have a partner or two or three.....

I would like to start a 50 Mile Challenge from July 1st to August 1st. If you are interested let me know. We will start Wednesday, July 1st and end Saturday, August 1st then maybe start over again. We can have weekly check in every Wednesday to log our miles walked and, or exercised.

I know there are many of you that can easily walk 50

miles or more. I am not one of them yet. Hopefully I will be soon.

I'll join you, only I'd be jogging, not walking. Don't worry, my jog pace isn't that fast--it'll probably take me just as long to get to 50 miles.

ALuv82 thanks for accepting the challenge. I am looking forward to this next phase of my journey. I havn't exercised faithfully in years. This is the next step of a healthy lifestyle. Hopefully I will be able to start a 50 Mile Jog Challenge.

JuJuVee, thanks for accepting the challenge. I am so glad you are on board. I need someone to hold me accountable and found this to be the surefire way to reach my goal.

I ride my exercise bike for 1/2 hour each day--it's usually 6 miles. 6X30=180 Can I join you with an altered goal--or should I try to find a different challenge?

Welcome aboard Willowcat. Glad to have you join the group. I also have a bike. I will possibly alternate between the two so that I won't get bored.

So how does this work?. Do you plan on wearing a pedomoter on you 24/7 or is it actual exercise time only that counts?

I want to join...I will do the elliptical/bike/walk combo! YAY I needed something like this to motivate me to go a little further. I usually just get in a rut and don't change things up so distance will be the focus this month!

Thanks for joining us Gabi! I too needed something to motivate me. I almost talked myself out of starting the challenge. I was thinking no one would join. I can't believe I am getting excited about exercising. WoHoo!

What a great idea! Count me in, too! My surgery is on July 7 and I'll be starting as a pretty sedentary gal, but I'll do as much as I can. At least it will give me something to work for. Thanks for starting the challenge!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
