Hi, Im a new member.I was banded on June 17,09. I have lost 15 pounds in my first week. Today is the 28th and I regained 5 pounds because I did not stick to my diet. I was wondering if any one could let me know what are some medical complications that could occur , so I can become more faithful to my diet.

Band slipage and pouch stretching. If you over eat or have to vomit a lot from over filling your pounch you can stretch it and possibly cause a band slippage, which would cause reopperation! I hope that you are able to jump back in to the swing of things and get back on track! You can do it!!!!! lol In the beginning your not so much trying to lose weight as you are just trying to heal! Make sure you follow your post op diet as much as possible to avoid damage to the band and/or your pouch! Good luck

The MAJOR cause of slippage is advancing one's diet too quickly. I don't want to scare you but you really should call your doc tomorrow and tell him/her what you've eaten. Depending on what it is, he may want to check you out to make sure you're ok. Especially if you've overeaten enough to gain 5 pounds (assuming you didn't just eat salt!) then you need to tell your surgeon.

Hi syettaC, I'm from Watertown/Oakville and I was just banded June 3rd. Who was your dr? I had Dr. Craig Floch. He was wonderful. The key to your problem is what are you eating. Definately touch base with your surgeons office and get back on track with your diet. Think about what you just went through. You don't want to have done it for nothing.

Being so close, we can get together as support for each other. karen

I am newbie also, I was banded 6/12/09 & have only lost 12 lbs. I thought the function of this whole thing was to loose weight at a realistic pace. I am finding that I am starting to crave foods that I know are forbidden, But I DIDNOT go thru this just to sabotage myself. I just keep trying to step back from this & remind myself why I did this in the first place. ( Well at least it's working for me now)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
