Hi there!

I've never been on a site like this and I've never posted anywhere, so I'm a little out of my element.

I'm four weeks post-op and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced any anxiety after surgery. I kind of feel like (what have I done, did I make a mistake, will I ever feel hungry again, etc...)

I've never had panic attacks, but after my surgery I had one. Now I'm on an Anti-anxiety/depression pill. (never had to take that either)

I know because of my worrying, I'm loosing my appetite. That's not helping either. I'm trying so hard to keep it together, but I'm worried about EVERYTHING!

Has anyone else experienced these emotions?!?

Thanks

Hi,

I was reading on the Relizeband web site that some people do experience anxiety and depression after banding. They are asking the same questions you are now.

I think there are people and support systems that can help you and this site has many many threads you can look through to see if there is something that speaks to you.

I am pre-band and am using this to gather info and read both the ups and downs of the surgery. I'm nervous and not looking forward to the surgery, but know it is probably the right thing to do.

Do you have someone local that you can talk to? A friend or someone you might know that might be able to help? Reach out either here or there. You are not going through this by yourself.

Thanks for your kind words.

I do see a counselor (I would highly recommend that for everyone!) And I'm just trying to figure out the med's (two days on them right now) I'm starting a support group next month.

I did talk to my Dr's nurse and she said this was pretty common. I asked her if I was the only "odd ball" that's had to get on Anti-anxiety medicine after this procedure. She said that a lot of their patients do. (that kind of makes me feel better) But truthfully, this anxiety is a killer on the soul!!

I certainly don't want to discourage you from doing it. But I hope that you look at all your options and your past eating experiences to see if you can give a diet one more shot!! Although this has been mentally tough on me, I wouldn't say that I regret it...! I'm still so new at it and I've got a long ways to go.

I don't know about your situation, but I'm not just excited to loose the weight, but I'm more excited that the band will help me keep it off!!

Thanks again and good luck!

Let me know what you decide.

If it is any consolation, I am asking myself all those questions & more! I was banded 6/16 and 2 days late I was sitting on my bed & crying saying what have I done to myself God? It is unfortunately more common than you think. This was a huge change to our body & mind. I spoke with a friend of mine who got the bypass about 1 year ago and she said she cried for the first 4 months! She did however promise me that it will get better/easier. She said as you start to see your weight go down and you start to feel better physically, your mind will also heal. Great job on getting professional help too!! Keep in touch. Feel free to send me messages and we can pull through this together!! <3 Cheryl:wub:

My therapist at my psych evaluation has had bypass surgery. She told me two things that I keep reminding myself of. She said, 1.There will come a time when you WILL think to yourself "What have I done?!" 2. You have to approach exercise like you do your job--you don't always "feel" like going but still you do. I had the "What have I done?!" and sobbing around my fourth day post-op. I didn't particularly like my therapist from the psych eval, but I am glad she warned me about those thoughts and feelings--because when they came (like post-partum depression?) I wasn't so surprised and they didn't last long.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
