Heat, humidity and tight band

Recommended Posts

The heat and humidity kicked into high gear here in texas and my band is tight, as if I just got a fill. Is there a connection? Heat and humidity makes my hands swell, could it make my band feel more tight?

I don't know for sure, you would think not. But the other day I couldn't eat cause I was so tight and the heat and humidity here was 99 degrees with heat index of 105 or so. When I came home from work I couldn't eat. I need freon in my car. So I have no air right now and drive about 15-17 miles one way to and from work. Lots of construction going on and is one of the busiest thorough fairs here. So lots of stop and go. When I get home and change from my work clothes I also have to change my bra and panties because the are drenched. But yeah I kinda think that is a possibility just from my own experience.

I live in TN, and it is hot as you know what here too. I don't know if the heat makes it tighter, but when it is hot, I just can't eat much anyway.

I live in San Antonio. Heat and humidity personified. Doesn't impact my band at all. What DOES impact most people's bands is hydration...if you aren't well hydrated you tend to be tighter. Well hydrated=looser. And when it's hot, if we don't up our Water intake (not tea, not crystal light, but plain old water) we can get dehydrated. If you are swelling that means you need water (odd I know but the water needs to be in your system circulating, not holing up in your extremities! ) Drink more water...if you swell it will lessen (assuming you don't have kidney disease or heart issues) and your band will remain "sane" instead of tightening up.

I agree with hydration. I'm not sure why it's that way, but I think it may be the culprit in a lot of people's "morning tightness". I definitely recommend bringing a Nalgene around with you and shooting for drinking at least two of them a day !

Hmmmmm. I live in South Texas and it's hotter than hell here. We just got back from a WONDERFUL two week vacation in Maine. Nice and cool. Dry and pleasant. It was HEAVEN. I never PBd so much in my whole band journey!!! I puked almost daily. The only thing I could associate it with was the altitude on the plane ride up there. I was better about a week after we returned home, but I've been tight a few times since. I don't think it was the heat for me......

It probably wasn't the altitude of the plane ride, but the dehydration. Flying is VERY dehydrating...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
