I got serious about losing weight one month prior to surgery and started my own version of a pre-op diet. Lost 17lbs. It's been just over 3 weeks since my surgery and I've lost another 21 lbs. So 38lbs total in 7 weeks. I know it won't continue like this but I can sure hope!

As I've been reading through the forums, I've noticed a lot of people with the weight loss tickers that have had their surgery only a few weeks ago and many have already lost over 30 pounds! Is that NORMAL? My doctor told me that the average is one to two pounds a week.

Please share your first month's weight loss, stories and amounts.

I find that so hard to believe, i would believe it if it were like 5 lbs but 30, i was banded june 22nd and have a followup this thurday i dare not to weigh myself at all i want my clothes to be scale

:tongue_smilie:I FORGOT TO ADD THAT I AM ON Protein shakes AS WELL. I HAVE TO CONTINUE THEM THROUGH THE mushy stage.

I started the Protein Shakes this week, using them to replace one meal a day. I like them a lot, so I'm thinking that's a good thing! I am using the 100% whey Protein that we have in our local health market, is yummy. I have 24 days until I'm banded, would it hurt if I started replacing two meals a day?

I'd say go for it! You may want to throw in a Multivitamin but as long as you are getting your protein in and drinking your Water then I think it would give you a great headstart! You can get your veggies and fruit in with the 1 meal a day  I wish I had started before my pre-op.

Cool, I think I will start tomorrow. I haven't exercised in over a year except for an occasional softball game. I am starting back to the gym tomorrow too. My doctor told me the more toned my stomach muscles were to start with the better off I will be. I want this so bad, I'm willing to do anything he tells me to do.

Thank you so much for your input.

I lost 22lbs from the start of 2 week pre-op diet, then was banded on 6/2/09 and have lost an add'l 26lbs post op through 6/27/09.

Based on the diet prescribed by my Dr. its not too hard to lose quickly. Lots of liquids from day 1 through 3 weeks post op.

Best of luck to you.

I was banded on June 18th. I guess its been a little over a week and a half since my surgery and in that time I have lost about 9.5 pounds. I also lost 20 pounds on my pre-op diet so altogether almost 30 pounds. The preop diet is great for motivation (because the pounds just start coming off). I have been sticking to post-op very strictly. And I know this time is for healing but I'm recording my intake (calories, fat, carbs, protein). I need to get in more Proteins (only drinking 1-2 shakes a day), but I have been keeping my carbs under 40 a day and calories between 600-800 a day.

Good Luck!

Hi. I am 35 weeks out today (surgery date October 27). I am down 50 lbs exactly, which works out to 1.43 lbs per week. I lost a lot the first six weeks (about 20 lbs) but it has been slow going ever since. Over the last 8 weeks (my last fill put me at 8ccs) I have lost an average of 1.7 lbs. Hope this helps.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
