Help! What to do now?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

am worried sick right now - was banded in Mexico in 2006. Have had three fills, and am at goal plus/minus 6 pounds or so. have a banded doc that did my fills and who I see every quarter or so to make sure all is ok. Well, I have been having reflux, etc., and was given antacid...am totally freaking that I might have a slip or something...am scared b.c if my job finds out I have the band I could get fired and prosecuted....I know this is vague, but does anyone have any ideas on what to do: should I go camp out at an ER until someone can see me and at least do a barium swallow?? any ideas on what constitutes emergency for removal, or to even be seen for possible complications?

How can you get fired for having a band? That sounds like discrimination and I'm sure it can't be legal?

Go to the doc who's been doing your fills and have him check you out. You may have a slip or erosion OR it may be something minor that, if treated promptly, won't give you any long term issues.

since you are very close to goal, have you considered removing some fill? I've not my first fill yet, but my daughter is banded. She never started having any reflux problems until she went to over 6ccs, but she stayed at 6.25 ccs because she was losing really good at that fill. But not that she's within 10 lbs of goal, she's going to remove a cc and start figuring out where her maintenance level should be.

Also, like, how can a job fire you for a medical procedure? I work in the legal field and I've never heard of that.

Lots of folks have problems with reflux and have to take meds. My daughter also figured out that if she drank just a very very small amount of a carbonated drink before she went to bed it also helped her...not sure wht the logic is in that.

Good luck

trisha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
