Hi everyone I am from Miami, Fl. I am 20 yrs old, I weigh 350 and I am 5"7. I dont know if i weigh to much to get the lapband. Bc I heard if u weigh to much u cannot get it. But I dont want the gastric bypass at all. I am very much interested in lap band. But i am scared of the side effects. I even heard some ppl dont lose weight at all. But the thing I like is that if anything goes wrong u cld simply take the lap band off. Well is there anyone from the miami area know about Dr Jorge L. Sosa. Is he good? And what happends post-op. Thank you so much for reading and I look forward to hear from you all.

I don't know the doc you are referring to, but at 53, 5'5" and 405, I got the band and am doing fine so no, you aren't too large to get it! Good luck!

I'm 22 (almost 23). I got my band last year. I was 253 at 5'3''...which is kind of large for my height. Most surgeons require you to lose weight before the surgery (I had to lose like 7-10 pounds) in order to shrink your liver making the surgery safer and easier. They put me on a liquid (with one lean cuisine) diet for the weeks before my surgery! It was worth it. I got down to 192...then I had some stress so I gained some weight back, but as soon as I get past this I'm going to get a fill  It was so so worth it! I'm around if you ever need to talk!

RestlessMonkey also gave me my courage to go ahead with it as well. I'm 5'6 and was 377 lbs....one month out today and 27 lbs down since surgery!

Just make sure you follow the pre op diet to the T so you don't wake up with no band!!!

yea i understand bc everything is not easy. even w/ lap band or any type of surgery. it is hard work. bc excercising and dieting is the key. as well as calorie counting. right now i am taking a diet capsule called phentermine which suppress your hunger it works but i am scared if i come off it my hunger would boost a 100x more than before. I also take a Vitamin called vitamin B12 which gives me energy. I started 2 weeks ago.

Be careful with that phentermine if you do decide to have the surgery. It can cause high blood pressure and rapid heart rate, which can increase your risks during surgery.

PS-I am not a doctor but I researched phentermine before I decided to have surgery. That is how I found out about the side effects.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
