first fill

Recommended Posts

I am going on 9/27 for my first fill. I have a 4cc band dr. is going to put

2cc in. I am worried that this is too much for a first fill. I surely do not

want to have to go back right away for an unfill. I have lost 18lbs.

without any fill. I have never had a pb or any problems with anything

getting stuck. I am very nervous about getting the fill not so much the pain

but the after effects. I think I am going to ask the dr. to start with 1cc.

instead of 2cc to see how it goes.

My doctors start with 1 cc they said if you add too much you will vomit of pb and it is not good for the band they based there theories on an australian study they did. people in australia lost weight fast but they also vomited alot every doctor has there own ways though who knows what is correct.

Absolutely! Talk to your Dr and let him know you feel 2cc is too much. Just because he's decided to put in 2cc doesn't mean it's correct for YOU.

In my opintion, it makes more sense to be conservative..... you want to slowly introduce your body to this restriction and I personally would only want 1cc. Do this and then analyze how it's working for you --- you can always go back in for another fill.

Of course I'm pre-band (sched for Oct 10) so long term bandsters opinons my be of more help to you, but I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Let us know how it goes.

My fill doctor says she uses the "push back" to help judge how much is right. That is, she starts injecting saline and then lets up on the plunger to see how much pressure pushes it back up. (If you've every played with a syringe you'll know what I mean.) She injects until the pressure pushes the syringe back up by about .5 cc. You can ask your doctor to try that.

ALSO, and far more importantly, insist that you get to sit up and sip several mouthfuls of cold Water (cold will cause contraction so you have a better judge of whether stuff will "flow thru"). If the water comes back up, insist he remove some Fluid. Normal is to feel the cold water go down, then "hang up" for a few seconds, then feel it flow thru into the rest of the stomach. Basically, if it stays down but you feel like you need to burp just a little, then the restriction is good. If it stays down but you feel like there's a baseball in your esophagus, you probably swallowed too large an amount too quickly. Walk until it resolves, then try a small sip or two and see if it feels OK. DON'T LEAVE THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE UNTIL YOU FEEL OK ABOUT THINGS. It's ok to do your water test in the waiting room if they push you out of the treatment room, but be prepared to make a fuss if water won't stay down properly. It's far less stressful than going home and debating whether or not to call or go back.

My fill Dr. said that he prefers to add saline slowly...when I got my band it was filled with 0.5cc and my first fill was at 25 lbs lost. My first fill was 0.75cc's. my band only holds 4ccs and the Dr. said to remember that filling it quickly has the downside of reaching maximum capacity more quickly...slowly but surely is his moto.

By now you are probably "filled". I hope it went well. I will be doing that for the first time in a couple weeks and I am watching posts to see what I can learn. My band is a different size, holds 9ccs. I'm glad the fill doctor has done lots of these so they can decide, hopefully, what's good. I have a friend who just went and hers was good. Karen

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
