Getting filled TOO Much?

Recommended Posts

from checking out many threads... i see that people get filled Very frequently!! and others get filled a couple months apart?

I also spoke with a woman (my contact at the OCC, where my surgery will be done) ..and she was only filled 3 times in 3 years and is at her goal of a 95 pound loss...

She mentioned that the may depend on the type of band that their surgeon used?

Any thoughts?

I think it probably depends on multiple things. The band, the person, the surgeon... perhaps even where you live.

I was banded in march and already had 3cc in my band. I definitely needed the fill I had in May (2cc). Once I had that fill though, I had GREAT restriction for about a month (until about 2 weeks ago).

Even though it's not as good now, I still have a pretty decent amount of restriction. My next scheduled fill is July 24. I had one for June 7 but I definitely did not need it and decided that I would rather wait than to be over-filled.

I can definitely eat more than I'd like, but still way less than I used to. I have still gotten stuck once in the past two weeks, and still have to chewchewchew and eat slowly, which tells me that I do not need to be super tight to do this.

I know a guy who didn't get a fill for a year and lost over 100 pounds. I know another guy who got a fill every month for his first year and lost 50 pounds. Just depends I guess. We're all different and I think that the band is different for every single person.

Yeah, that makes sense! THANKS FOR REPLYING!

I a perfect world I will be one of those people that only needs a fill a couple times in a year, LOL I wish! I am self pay, so that can get pricey if I need frequent fills.

I just get scared, bc I read (on here, so not sure if its 100% fact) that you can tear your band if its too tight? and a tooo tight band cant be good, right?

I have felt very fortunate that I only have needed two fills. I have an app for July 15th, but it may only be a check up because I feel a lot of restriction this week and have not been able to eat much. I was afraid I would be in there every month and it would be very expensive! No, it's not good to be too tight and I think people whose insurance cover fills might be more prone to get that way.

I got my first fill today 2cc's in a 10cc band but because I am losing weight they did not want to do more than that. So far I have been one of the lucky ones and she told me if I continue to lose weight like I am may not need another one for a while. I'm amazed and not hungry but have never been stuck or pb'd. We are all different as they say hoping your journey rocks!

Thats awesome!

yeah, thats what I learned...everyone IS different. My fill doc said not to pay TOO much attention to what people say i forums, bc they we expect to do what they do and have the same results. he said to follow how I feel...makes sense.

Thats great you have 2cc in a 10cc band and dont need another yet. I got 4cc in an 11cc band and am going monday for another bc I have very little restriction.

I am a lower BMI, and need more than 4cc...he said that some patients with higher BMI's cant even tolerate 3cc..

will post after I get the second fill! hopefully that will be it for a while and I see some results!!

Good Luck!

Hey girlie,

I am also a low bmi'er, if thats a word, hahha. Anywho, I just had my first fill 5cc's. I also was banded by Dr. Ortiz and wasn't able to afford to go back to see him. At first I lost 10 pounds after surgery and put it all back on. I found a fill Dr. in my city and he is great. He is really kind and not expensive. I wanted to get a fill before now but I couldn't find anyone affordable until.

At first I was nervous that I got 5cc's, but after reading that you got 4 and going back for 1cc I think I will be fine. Let me know how things go and I will do the same.

Hey!!

Yeah, 4cc did nothing for me...everything was going down fine..even if I forgot to chew properly...etc.

I cant go back to Dr Ortiz either.. but have a doc that my PCP recommended..i really like him and he is $100 a fill.

He added 2cc more and when I drank Water, it wouldnt go down..too tight. so he took out .5cc and the Water went down smooth...so I now have 5.5 cc

I have to be on liquids for 2 days, so we'll see!!

good luck!

keep in touch!

also dont forget.. dont base your restriction and amount of cc's on others. everyone is different! you may have great restriction with 4.5...and I may need 7! you never know!

good luck!!!

Thanks for the response. I know what you mean. I have 5cc's and honestly it has done nothing for me. I mean I can really still eat the same with no complications. I'm going to go back in for another fill if possible.

Anges,

I have the old style 10cc Allergen band that only holds 4cc fill. It took me a while to realize that I could not compare my fill level with some others on this site.

I am comfortably filled at 2.28cc. I have great restriction and cannot eat more than 1 cup of food. I don't know why, but I was able to eat more up until two weeks ago and haven't had a fill since July 10th then all of a sudden I can't eat much and this has been going on like I said, 2 weeks. I'm loving it though. I can say that my eyes are now much bigger then my stomach.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
