Success/experiences the first month??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on june 11th, I lost 30 lbs from May 18th till my surgery on June 11th and as of today I am down a total of 40 lbs (I know it dosent show on my ticker, I cant figure out how to update it LOL). It is very weird I barely eat at all, sometimes I dont even get in three meals a day.

I have a Optifast shake for breakfeast everyday along with my Vitamin and nexium. For lunch I have either Soup (can only have about 1/4 of a can) or tunafish with a few crackers, or chilli, or yogurt. For dinner its pretty much the same as lunch. Some days I dont even have lunch. After dinner I sometimes have a sugar free pudding or ice pop and Decaf coffee every night.

I am going to start to work out next week (light) just giving my incision one more week to heal a little bit more before I start to excersise a little bit. My first fill is not until August 8th.

I put myself on a diet one month before surgery. Gave up soda and fast food and started trying Protein drinks. No luck with the Protein Drinks because of allergies. Anyway lost 17lbs month before surgery. I'm 3 weeks out from surgery and I've lost 20 more. Last week I didn't lose anything but I really wasn't taking in enough calories. (350-500 a day) so this week I added calories and the weight has fallen off this week.

I'm just under 1 month in, so I can tell you what happened with me. I was hovering between 260 and 265 up to starting my pre-op diet. I first started tracking my weight 2 weeks before surgery, and was at 259 then. A few days before the surgery, I was at 255. A few days after the surgery I was down to 251. In the month since, I've only dropped an additional 2 pounds, bringing me to 249 (as of Wednesday). But I'm not complaining about that, because I'm back to "real" food, but haven't had a fill yet, so I'm feeling hungry, and still getting used to eating less and slower.

Can i ask you guys how much you have lost during the liquid/mushy stage (until the first fill?)

I lost 12 pounds from the day of surgery until the first fill 6 weeks later.

I lost 10 lbs on the 2 wk pre-op diet (shakes, Protein waters & up to 2 cups veggies). The first week after surgery I barely lost anything (same diet as pre-op, minus the veggies). Now after almost 3 weeks post op, I have lost a total of 28 lbs since I began (ttl 5 wks). I have to say, I am almost never hungry, and most days have difficulty in getting in all my protein. I go for my first fill on July 8.

yes the first fill is where we all hope to break out of bandster heall and start some consistant weightloss. As our bodies adjust to the fill amount and the pressure of the band we will plateau again. this will happen over and over until we hit the "Sewwt spot" this is the goal for everyone. some say it takes 4-6 fills to find it. But it is different for everyone.

Good Luck!

Some people do not lose significantly until they have a few fills and say each one subsides in effect after some weight loss due to fat loss around the band. We are all different. I did see a big 5 pound weight loss the week of each of my 2 fills, but have never really plateaued in weight loss. I have been fortunate to be able to continue losing 1 1/2-2 pounds weekly throughout and have not had to relose any of the pounds. I still have nearly the same restriction today as I had a few weeks after my fill in February. I think there are others who have the same experience.

I am in band hell my friends....

I had my surgery June 12th. Started two week preop diet, lost 7 pounds. Post op, lost ten more....recently gained back four. I feel like I have NO restriction. I get hungry, REALLY hungry and want to eat evberything in site. I feel like I am failing!

I am going to the grocery store tonight and loading up on shakes. I think starting tomorrow I will do two shakes during the day and another after a 1 cup dinner. I havent been measuring but I know I am having way more then that and I honbestly could keep going but I dont! Anyway...I am happy for you that are losing but I am wondering what is wrong with me???? I hope the first fill helps! Oh, and yes I realize I have major head hunger too...I will always think like a fat girl I am sure! I started at 247 and today am 235, I had been 231 and felt more in control! I am five foot six btw. Good luck all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
