Thirteen? Are they experiencing a recession too? It used to be 72 virgins! :)

Yeah, like ANY virgin would want to have anything to do with those nasty men.

OK...this entire memorial thing really is a circus. Just heard on the news that the Ringling (sp?) Bros. Circus is waiting in the wings to get into the arena immediately after MJ's service. How appropriate is that?

LMAO!!

I haven't watched TV since it happened. Only our recorded shows that I can FF through.

Of course, we were watching the Houston News the other night, thinking we were safe, but NO! More MJ fans screaming and crying, going to the memorial.

:) Stop the insanity! People are paying so much $$$$ to go to some strangers memorial? That money could go to charities, or victims of disasters...I dunno, I know I've spent money frivilously before, but never on a dead guy.

FOX News had a good -- and thought-provoking -- article on this:

Relatives of Soldier Killed in Afghanistan Decry Lack of Coverage Amid Jackson Spectacle - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com

We treat this guy like a god, yet our boys and girls who are TRUE HEROES, are treated like roadkill in the media.

Makes ya want to cry, doesn't it??????? Shows you just how out of whack our society is. Bowing down to entertainers and having no clue to what is going on in the real world. Neither of my sons (both in service and have experienced Iraq) have respect for the media and the way things are portrayed.

I am also wondering, Gouchester, what the money spent on this memorial would have done for a charity. Childhood Sexual Abuse Foundation maybe?

I hear ya. My hubby's in the Army and he doesn't care too much for the press. They did have a photographer for the Army News that followed them for a little while and she was cool :)

Please tell your sons they have a grateful free citizen because of them.

I'm also wondering how much this is costing California, a state that can't afford a happy meal, much less this circus.

When oldest DS was in Iraq a MPLS newspaper was allowed to do ride-alongs with the promise of no leaks (this unit escorted dignitaries to and from airport from Green Zone). Only took two weeks b/4 there was a leak. Entire unit were on the verge of different mission because of this leak. To think, just for a good story and putting our guys at risk because of it.

Because they're vermin and don't give a shit. I remember when the Gulf War was going on and Geraldo Rivera (nee Jerry Rivers, the scab) was drawing a map in the sand showing where our guys were right before a "secret mission," talking about where they were coming from and where they were going!!

People like that should be shot on the spot. BY THE MILITARY. That would make a good story! :)

Thanks, Beth. Both DS's KNOW there are soooo many grateful Americans. (Sorry...a little hijacking)

On the State of CA and what the bill for all of this will be...hoping MJ's estate is footing the bill. But am pretty sure CA will be putting out some funds for crowd control, etc. If I have this right, LAPD is flying his sorry ass to the service in a helicopter.

It is indeed a subject of considerable controversy out here....who's gonna pay for it? It was same thing for the Laker's victory parade....cost the city millions. Not to mention the traffic tie-ups and everything associated with it. And I live about 10 minutes from the Jackson's Encino home....what a MESS it is driving through THAT area.

There was an article in the paper here this morning, though, that suggested that the city will BENEFIT from the MJ circus going on here....increased revenue from visitors to the memorial, etc, etc. Somehow, I do not think that is gonna trickle down to where it is NEEDED, though.

HH

note: funny you should mention "happy meals", Beth. I suspect that they were the preferred cuisine in MJ's bedroom.....:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
