banded june 22nd

Recommended Posts

So, I'm not having pudding and yogurt yet. Are those considered a liquid? I guess I could, but I'm not sure. I'm unclear about my guidelines. liquids for 2 weeks, Puree/Mushy foods for 2 weeks. I thought yogurt and pudding was a puree/mushy? I am totally following the rules, so I don't want to do anything wrong! lol... But darn, I'd love a yogurt for dinner! :tongue2:

I am following my rules to the tee too!:)

first 2 days after surg. -clear liquids,day3-13 full liquids; day 14-27 pureed ; day 28 regular food.

What are your post -op eating rules?

My doc says full liquids are anything you can suck threw a straw. So if I add some Water or non fat milk to the yogart then that is a full liquid. But not a clear liquid. Also same thing with pudding or anything. I can puree things and add liquid to them and if they are smooth and thin then it is a liquid as far as my doc is concerned. But not a clear liquid. So while Im on clears I cant have yogarts or puddings or anything. Only like broth and things that are clear. But once I move to the full liquid phase of the diet then yogarts are a total green light as long as I add a little Water to thin it out.

Interesting....I am allowed to eat the yogurt and pudding as is ..no need to thin it . And I have tolerated it just fine:laugh:

Oh okay, that makes sense! I am drinking Protein Shakes, which are just like pudding that's thinner.. maybe I will try a yogurt after a week. Thanks!

My surgeon allowed me to eat yogurt and pudding after the first week. I came out fine. I was banded on 06-17-09 and I just started eating mushies. It feels so good to eat tuna!:tongue2:

My post-op rules are:

First two weeks: Liquids

Next two weeks: puree/mushy

Week 5 and on: start soft foods

I had a 7up on my tray in the hospital the night of my surgery! I heard the nurses saying something like he'll flip out if he finds that out, that shouldn't be on there! lol.... I didn't think so, but I was too out of it on the glorious dilaudid.... ha!

I think after a week I will go ahead and try a yogurt or a pudding. I'm doing okay with my shakes right now. And yeah, tuna sure sounds good, or a banana! Reminds me of when I attempted the LA Weight Loss Diet and I had to eat steak and broccoli at 9am, 12noon, 3pm and 6pm. After a few days, I just wanted a yogurt and an apple!

Don't beat yourself up too much. If you've lost 40 lbs since surgery, you're really right on target. The recommended is 1-2 lbs per week. It's only been 21 weeks or so since your surgery. Like anything else, there will be ups and downs. It took a long time for the weight to get there and it will take a while to come off. I'm horrible about the sweets but because I'm so restricted, the only sweets I can eat is chocolate and ice cream...can't do cake, pie, etc. So I buy only the ice cream in the little cups to at least control my portions and I'm working on restricting the chocolate. I was able to drink soda but that's kind of gone away because of being too restricted.

I have a lot of time off for the holidays so I'm also trying to get my butt in gear to exercise. That's my hardest stumbling block. You'd think since I have so much time that I'm NOT eating anymore that I could find the time to work out...but Noooo...;):)

So you have a big hug from me...get back into the WLC which may help on motivation.

Trisha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
