Some kind of flu .. Its killing me

Recommended Posts

So last Sunday I felt kinda sick and had to go to the hospital. They checked and said it might be the swine flu but I had to wait for the results, so I call them back Tuesday and they say its just the regular flu, even though the doc was almost positive it was the swine. Later one of the nurses told me that it might actually be the swine but because the symptoms are the same they cant really say. That was not really the problem, but the stomach flu I got after taking the medications. Terrible nausea and hardcore vomiting. It wakes me up everyday with my head in the trash can.

So now when I try treating the the flu with Tylenol and other coughing medicines I get the awful stomach flu :bored:. I even get sick when I drink Water. How can I treat both ?

please help me

Water is really hard on a sensitive tummy. I'd suggest what I use for my kiddos who get the awful bug. Start off with one tablespoon of Gatorade or Pedialyte or Sprite with no carbonation (stir it until it's flat). Every 15 minutes take a tablespoon. If you can do this and keep it down for two hours, you can increase the amount a little bit. Once you feel like eating, start with the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast and yogurt). Only a couple spoonfuls of one of these at a time until you determine if you can handle it. Hopefully it will pass in a day or two, I'm sorry you are so sick, I hate hate hate the stomach flu! :bored:

excellent advice newdecarlo................and here's a help....

to get your sprite or 7up flat, put it in the blender and spin for just a few seconds. it will flatten it immediately....(learned that when working in the pediatric wards)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
