Going from liquids to mushies...

Recommended Posts

Okay people I'm STARVING!!! I have 5 days left until I can go to the mushies but I'm going to lose it if I have another shake. Does everyone wait for 2 weeks before mushies? And what were your mushies? Thanks!

HANG IN THERE you wild chickie you. You only have 5 more days!

I drained chicken noodle Soup (well, strained it and gave the noodles to my husband) and had that. I also took split pea Soup and blended the devil out of it (week 2) and had it. If you are on full liquids or "creamy" Soups you can do that. You'll make it; you've come too far now to fall over the line! :(

For my mushies I ate refried Beans and cheese (OMG I thought I'd die) and some cheese enchiladas mashed to mush....things like that. Mashed potatoes. I blended spaghetti and Soups and had them (not together LOL)

I got a little mini food processor in a stunning pink and used it to mash up lots of things.

Okay seriously! You have got to be my fairy godmother!!! That makes me feel so much better. I almost attacked my poor husband over chicken and broccoli last night. Wasn't pretty and neither was my mood. All I have been eating is protien shakes and that's it...I hadn't thought about the Soup. Think I'd be okay with a little cream of chicken? And the enchiladas sound SO amazing!!! :(

What specifically do your post op instructions say? If week 2 is still Clear Liquids then I'd stick with the drained chicken noodle (or drained vegetable, for example) but if they say full liquids or creamy liquids, then as long as you BLEND the cream of chicken so it's smooth (through a straw) you'll be good.

THe enchiladas will need to wait but believe me they'll still taste good...as long as they are very mushy (no chicken or beef unless you really blend them!)

:(

I just want you to kick ass! :)

It depends on what your doc said - I was also allowed blenderized Soups right after surgery. I was living on cream of potato blendered with lots of milk to make it thin enough. What does your diet say? I'm amazed at how different the diet routine is from one doc to another.

Yeah ... no milk is a biggie. (gas issues, I'd guess)

I couldn't even have Protein Shakes until week 2. But, you get through it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
