Who gives the surgery date?

Recommended Posts

my appointments:

seminar #1-July 7

seminar #2-July 23

pa...........-July 27

nut...........Aug 17

dietician......Sept 16

surgeon.......Sept 30

Does the surgeon give you a surgery date and then you have to start the 10% weight loss or maybe the pa gives the date so you have time to start losing before you actually see the surgeon? I'm getting excited since my appointments are getting closer, even though Sept 30 seems like years away. My insurance has to have a recommendation from the surgeon's office before they will approve or reject you.

thanks for any info you can give me

Deb

It depends on your insurance and doctor. My insurance required a six-month preop diet. After a predetermination that the surgery was covered, my surgeon didn't even submit paperwork until after I was done with all the appointments and diet requirements. I have my final preop seminar on July 3, at which time I'll get my surgery date. I started in September, had a delay when I was hospitalized for pneumonia, so it'll be about 10 months for the preop process. I hope yours goes more smoothly than mine! Good luck. :(

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
