Hello Ladies.... I have a question...

I currently take the Depo shot for birth control and was told by my doctor that the birth control makes it hard to lose weight.. No that I am getting the Lap band I was wondering if some of you ladies have used this method and lose weight with the Lap band. I just dont want to end up Prego and just lost this weight....No way!!!

I currently get Depo injections and have noticed no problem with weight loss. I was banded 3 months ago and am down 42 pounds since beginning the lapband process. (My ticker includes weight I lost on WW prior to surgery). My weight loss has come to a standstill in the last 3 weeks but I'm going in for a fill next week, so it's not related to my injection in any way, just the need for a fill. However, I think people respond differently to the medications, some may notice weight problems with them and some may not. JMO!!

I started Depo the month before my surgery. Not intended that way, just surgery was scheduled a lot sooner than I thought it would.

I can't tell you if there is a difference or not. I'm a slow loser and was before surgery. Seems that's no different for me. At least this time it's steady and I'm not having the gains that I used too.

One thing, it takes awhile to get adjusted on the Depo and you may (will) have break-thru and spotting. It's normal to even have some light periods when first starting. Usually takes a few rounds of shots for that to stop. Now. Having said that, b/c you'll be losing consistently (hopefully), expect even more break-thru and spotting. Excess Estrogen is stored in fat cells and when you lose fat, the Estrogen is released in to your system and it will throw your system off. PMS symptoms and bleeding included. Just so you know.

Also, as with other birth control, it is still possible to get pregnant even on Depo.

Best wishes to you!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
