thank you for your reply, i am type 2 diabetic and i just hope my sugar does not bottom out the first two weeks after my surgery with all liquid of sugar free

Hi Dee, My name is Karen and I was just banded 6/3/09. Like you, I had type II diabetes. Believe it or not, since two days before the surgery, I have not needed to take any of my diabetic medication. My sugar levels were monitered around the clock in the hospital and when I got home and was on the liquids I tested my level often. No need for the medication. However, not taking my diabetic medication was the advice of my doctor. He said because I will not be eating anywhere as many carbs, I should not need my meds and he was right. As of today, it has been a whole month and no diabetic medication. Good luck and keep me posted.

Hello fellow bandsters. I'm "Yo" and I was banded on June 16, 2009. I lost 8.5 lbs on the 2 week pre-op diet and I've lost 6 lbs post-op. So, a total of 14.5 lbs. I'm having difficulty getting the recommended amount of Protein each day. I do have the Protein Shakes and they taste fine, I just can't drink the whole glass at one time. This is my first time "reaching out" to fellow "lap-banders".......I've been in agonizing PAIN of my left shoulder since my procedure!!!! I'm scheduled to return to work on Monday, June 29th and I truly hope I'll be able to perform my duties. I've been applying a mentholated ointment and heating pad to help resolve my pain. Is there anyone out there who was recently "banded" who has had this type of excruciating pain? What did you do to help resolve it? Is a 6 lb weight loss with-in a "good" range for 11 days post-op??

Hello Yo. I understand about how hard it is in the first few weeks to get it all down Just be patient. In about another week you should be able to start drinking more of your shakes at 1 time. Or just every couple of hrs. Drink some. Try Gas-X strips for the pain in your shoulder and walk a lot. Sounds like gas pains. The gas might have settled in your shoulder. maybe do shoulder rounds. Where you shrug your shoulders in circles. Good luck with your journey

Ms. Yo,

Before my surgery, I was given a photo of a person kneeling down and leaning on their forearms, so that their hind end was sticking up in the air. They told me that a lot of the time, the carbon dioxide gets trapped behind the shoulder just like gone 4 ever suggested. They said that by sticking your rear in the air, the gas moves that way to escape via "tooting".

In addition to the mentholated sports creams/ointments and heating pad!!! So, "thanks" Mary! I appreciate any input which will help alleviate my pain.

Hi to everyone. I'm posting for the firs time on this forum, and after lots and lots of reading and thinking and more reading I've decided to start my serious Quest into getting a lap band. I've talked it over with friends and relatives and some think it's a bad idea, some think its the way to go. I know I want to get it because I NEED to lose this excess baggage that I've been carrying on me for the better part of my life. I know I need it because I've tried every conceivable diet, some pills...exercise... and cannot keep the weight off for more than a couple of months at a time. I know that this is my only hope now, surgery. I want to think the lap band is the best option for me although I've also looked into the gastric sleeve and the pros and the cons are hard to weigh. I would like to be able to talk to more people that have had both......I tend to prefer the band because the stomach cutting makes me a little nervous.

I'm glad I found this forum and hopefully I can make a few friends that can help me and accompany me on this what seems to be a difficult journey. Thanks for reading my post all and have a great weekend.

Jeannie:rolleyes2:

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
