Does your port still feel like a bruise?

Recommended Posts

I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror a few minutes ago when I decided to trace where I felt a twinge of bruise-like pain. The location seemed strange, so I laid down on the bed for Mom, a registered nurse who had the surgery back in March of 2008, to give it a feel. I know nothing about anatomy, but I assume the hard place I felt moved when I lay on my back, because as Mom found my port, it was below my largest incision scar. The second she found it (and by found, I mean prodded!) it sent a horrible pain through my abdomen very similar to when someone presses a bruise on your leg.

I was banded 12/30/08 and the plastic booger still feels like a giant bruise. I swear it's more tender when it rains or is cold outside. I don't have a problem laying on my stomach, but I have to be a little more cautious when I shift into certain position. Am I alone in this, or do any of you still have tenderness to your port site?

Mine still bothers me sometimes. It'll get really tender and hurt like my scars did a couple of weeks after surgery. Usually, I can tell I've bumped it or something. But sometimes it's nothing at all.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. They sew the ports into muscles and so it's a tender spot. Either way, next time you're there, I'd ask the doctor, just to be sure.

Mine only really annoys me when I'm shaving my legs - So annoying lol. My port is on the right like half a hands length under my boob and everytime I bend over to shave my legs it's pretty uncomfortable. I think the port site will always be tender though because you have something stitched into the muscle. As long as it's not like causing major pain all the time then I wouldn't worry too much, but like the second person said, talk to your doctor next time your in if your really worried about it.

Mine Still hurts like hell. My bra rubs against it constantly, and After my fill on friday it hurt like a mofo. if I slouch or sit the wrong way it kills. and I have 2 fatty deposits around it so the doc poked both of them before actually finding my port. Mine is to the right of my sturnum, under my right boob, so a bra def rubs against it and pushes pressure down on it, so I'm forever shifting it or tucking my shirt under the underwire for relief

My port is still tender sometimes too. I don't lay on my stomach because it pushes it and makes me uncomfortable. Sometimes if my jeans are too high when I sit down, it pushes my port and hurts. I think it's because the muscles keep having to change positions because we keep losing the fat under it. Maybe it won't hurt so much after we get to our healthy weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
