I found out this morning my band had a minor slip. I can keep food and liquids down with no problem my only problem is nighttime reflux which involves coughing but I cough so hard that I end up throwing up. My symptoms have gotten better it use to be every half hour i would be up coughing and now its not as frequent. My doctor has taken out all my Fluid and is having me go on liquids in hopes that the band will slip back into place. Has anyone experienced this and what are the chances of my band slipping back into place?

When I had my band, I slipped it numerous times. Each time, my doctor did a complete unfill and had me do liquids only for a week. And, each time, my band did go back into place. Hopefully, yours will too.

May I ask how you knew you had a slip if you are able to keep food & liquids down. I thought that is how you know when you have a slip. I developed night-time coughing & reflux after my last fill. I went back & they removed .2cc which was enough to make the reflux stop but I still am coughing a lot at night. I can still eat more than I feel I should be able to but am planning at my next visit to have them remove another .1 cc to hopefully stop the coughing. Like you I am completely able to keep food & liquids down, it's just that darn coughing.

The doctor had me do an Upper GI. I went and had it last Thursday the 18th and took my films to the doctors office right after. Yesterday I went in for Fluid out (in hopes my reflux would stop) and the doctor looked at my films and saw that my band had slipped.

I am from vegas also, only on the west side of town. Who did your surgery? Mine was done by Dr. Atkinson. Keep us posted if your band went back in place. I am so scared of this happening and having to go thru surgery again :(

Dr. Atkinson did mine also I had surgery May 20, 08. I'm sure you'll be fine in April I was over filled my appointment was on a Friday so that whole weekend I was throwing up and coughing all night due to reflux but I could keep food down I had Fluid out the following Monday. I'm assuming that's when it started to slip cause three weeks later is when my reflux started again and still hasn't ended. So my suggestion is don't get filled on a Friday cause you have to wait all weekend but I'm sure you're band will be fine. Just follow the rules and listen to your body.

Waiting for the verdict...have appt on Friday. Did the upper GI today. I have not had a fill since April, May was an unfill, felt pretty good till last week, not hungry but it started hurting having even soft foods. It just didnt feel right, too much discomfort much too often so I called to go in. I was thinking it was going to be an unfill again, but Dr. thought might be slippage, due to the fact too long between the last fill/unfill and now onset of pain with eating even soft foods/liquids. He removed all the saline, 4.5cc in band.

I have been looking up any posts of slippage trying to get informed. Guess if it is a slippage, they need to go back in to correct??? Anyone have more info to share??? Thanks just a bit nervous.

I found out yesterday that my band has slipped. I had finally got over my night-time coughing & thought things were going well when out of the blue last week I couldn't keep most things down. I went in & they removed a little & I could keep liquids down then but not all solids. They recommended revision surgery but I just hate to do that. We asked if I could just see if it goes back in place. He said we could try it but more than likely things won't be right until I have surgery.

I'm wondering what happened with your slip?

Hey! Sorry I was out of town then just forgot to post about my slip. I'm gonna need to get the revision surgery also I'm not looking forward to it and have been putting it off first because my mom lost her job so I lost my insurance. Now I'm on COBRA however by then I was in summer school and it was too late to drop the class without loosing 200 dollars. But I can keep liquids down and keep food down so my doctor said it was okay. I'm going to call to schedule my surgery next week for in between summer school and the fall semester.

JRFAN88: I'm sorry you need revision surgery I understand what your going through.

I was lucky, no slippage. When he unfill completely it was so comfortable, 2 days that way, then back to fill but only small amt. He put back 3cc. 4 weeks later I went for fill, but got the other doctor and he is much more aggressive, he put in another 1.6cc......it was too much. I just most recently, last Sun. had to call office, he met me there and removed all of the fill, I drank to check if things could go down, and then he filled to 4cc total. I feel good now. The pain was much too much. Things, even soft and liquids were not going down, and the pain......was awful. I hope you do well at your appt. Maybe a upper GI to rule out the slippage would be a good thing for you, it surely gave me the relief I needed! I was so scared it a slippage. good luck, keep me posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
