I go in for my surgery Thursday but I still have concerns. Are any of you worried about how your lap band will hold up for 20 years etc? This is a new surgery and no one really knows what it will do to your body in so many years. I am paying out of pocket for the surgery. Has anyone had complications where they had to have it removed and did their insurance then cover that surgery? Thanks Everyone! P-

Of course I am worried about the future of my band, but I didn't have the surgery thinking about taking it out. It is doing its job for me now. I have lost 81lbs in less than a year so far and I don't ever want to put it back on again. If something happens, and of course it can, just look at the complications thread for proof, I plan on doing whatever I need to do to make sure I don't gain it back.

I dont' know whether or not insurance will cover removal if it doesn't cover the initial surgery. I would hope that if it were affecting your health, it would cover removal, but I am not sure.

Honestly, no. I am worried about how I would hold up for the next 20 years without it.

It is reversible. If something goes wrong, it can be removed. But if I were dead of a heart attack or stroke from being 405 (or more) pounds at age 60....well, dead is dead. I'm being totally honest here. To me, it was not even an issue. They've been approved in the USA for a while, there are issues with the band, there are MORE issues with obesity. I'm playing the odds.

:blushing:

I couldn't have said it better myself! But every day we get up and go out our door we take a risk. We just learn to manage those risks, almost unconsciously, and move forward.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
