How long until back to work / Toddlers?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I am all over this board reading stories, and getting as much info as possible.

Wondering how soon you returned to work after being banded? Is it wrong for me to assume if I have it done on say a Thurs/Fri I would be okay for work Monday morning?

Also, anyone else have a wild toddler as I do? How did it go?

:blushing:

for me - I couldn't have gone to work by then. I slept and slept and slept - for 3 days post-op and then was just tired out easily after that. I think most recommend not going back to work until a week out from surgery - and some stay longer. I am exactly a week out and glad I don't have to go to work. I am taking it easy to heal. The body takes a toll undergoing major surgery.

I have a 4yr old and a 22 month old, I had my op done on Thursday 7 May, I had my mum and hubby with me over the weekend but was back to "work" myself on Monday....I was fine :blushing: I am soooo glad that I did have those few days with help though as I had a lot of shoulder/neck pain and could barely move. Thankgod I was pretty much back to 100% by day 4 (Monday).

I was banded on Monday 6/15 and felt that I was well enough to go to work by Friday but didn't return till Monday. The shoulder and neck pain lasted till Thrusday. I have a 2 year old and was left alone with her on Wednesday and felt well enough to take care of her. Hope everything goes well for you.

I had my surgery this past Thursday....Went back today (monday)... I was home Friday, had to go back and forth to the hospital all weekend to see my husband who had the same surgery the same day but had complications. I have two little kids also, when to a fathers day bar-b-que on Sunday...did laundry, cleaned and life just went on for me. I had no time to rest. It's a mom thing I guess. Not saying its the correct way, but you have to do what you have to do. I worked all day today, went grocery shopping and it's 11:30 pm right now and I am typing this while I am making meals to eat during the week... So if all goes well and you dont have a physical job you should be good to go... I also have not had any pain killers since I left the hospital on Friday. I hurt but not more then child birth! Good Luck to you!

I had surgery 1st thing in the morning on 6/19. I am hoping to go back to work tomorrow. I slept slept slept Fri, Sat, & Sun setting an alarm to wake me up to walk because of the gas pains. I had no desire what so ever to drink anything until yesterday (monday) when I finally was able to have broth, popsicles, and Water. This morning I took my 4 yr old to summer camp for the first time and made short stop at the food store...that took a lot out of me came home and napped for 2 hrs. I really think it depends on your job. I have an desk job that requires me to talk on the phone a lot. I think that is going to be the hardest part of all because I still have a lot of gas and it hurts for me to talk because the gas is in my shoulders, neck, and chest. I had hopes like you to go back to work this past Monday but there was just no way. The best advice I could give is prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

I had my surgery on 6/19 Friday and was discharged that evening... Saturday and Sunday I just kinda hung out around the house and rested...but I really didnt have much pain at all and I could have went back to work Monday. I have a very easy desk job, but Im going back Thursday which is the day my dr and I agreed on, Im still getting use to my liquid diet so Im ok with that. I also have a 3 year old and she doesnt understand the procedure I had done, but she does know that my tummy is sore and she has to be careful not to jump on me and she cant be rough. Good Luck, this website is amazing, any questions you have can definatly be answered here!

It also depends on what you do. I work as a programmer, so I'm just sitting in a chair typing. I had my surgery on Wednesday, and I could have gone back the following Monday if I had to. But I had a bunch of sick time to burn off, so I just took as much as I could.

But the rate of healing is different for everyone, so there are no guarantees. Even so, 3 days away is probably the bare minimum that I could have done, even with my non-physically demanding job.

I was operated on the Thursday and back to work Tuesday. As I have a toddler (2, as well as a 5 & 7 year old), I figured I would get more rest in my office job and be less likely to lift toddler. I was fine at work, but tired at night.

I will tell you that I have had a sore back the last week. I tried to lift my 2 year old as little as possible, but could not avoid it (eg-in/out bed/car, nappy changes, etc). I think because I have tried not to use my tummy muscles that I have strained my back.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
