For the first time since surgery on June 2, I am wearing an underwire bra. It's terribly uncomfortable under the left boob. My port is in the center, so I know it's not hitting the port. I don't really know where the band itself sits.

Has anyone else had bra issues? Any solutions?

I'd suggest NOT wearing an underwire bra for another month or so and letting everything finish healing. Just a thought. Three weeks isn't long enough for everything to be back to normal yet.

Try wearing sports bra's without wires. Should help more

On days when I am especially tight, I feel like my bra actually inhibits my band's ability to pass food. Like the bra adds to the restriction of the band. I'll unhook for awhile and usually those days, I have to stick to mushies. It's not everyday but I do notice it periodically. :smile2:

Bras bras bras.

Intrusive, constricting, oppressive little things, aren't they? No wonder we tried to burn them all in the 60s. Obviously, we must have missed a few!

I switched to no-wire quite a few years ago. They've improved them (the no-wire) tremendously and some are actually even quite comfortable.

I also have some pain on the left side below my breast when I wear an underwire, especially if I'm doing a lot of sitting. I try not to wear an underwire too often because of this.

I wore a underwire bra the second week after the surgery when I returned to work. I ended up putting some padded gaws unter my left boob to lessen the pain. I did that for 2 days and then i was fine. It will go away.

We were talking about this in another thread a while back when someone mentioned that when she gets stuck, undoing her bra helps.

What we thought was this: I have fairly low body fat now and can see my port, but also can feel an inch or two of tubing before it disappears below the muscle. So perhaps a bra does indeed put pressure on the tubing before it goes deeper into the body in certain people and that squeezing the tubing squeezed Fluid up the tubing and around the band, making it ever so slightly tighter, thus explaining why you can feel relief from ripping off your bra. Sound feasible?

I actually got a staph infection from my softcup bra in one of my incisions! My boobs are really big, and the softcup was rubbing against the incision and I suppose bacteria got in there.

I think most people say wearing sports bras for the first month or so. If the bra touches any of the incisions, cover them up while you have the bra on.

As for the pain, I'm not sure what that could be. But I did wear an underwire bra the other day for several hours and found that it irritated me pretty bad, it kept pressing into my flesh and hurt.

Oh, no! I have some pretty big tatas, and I feel totally naked without an underwire bra. For me there is SUCH a big difference. I asked my surgeon about my bra getting in the way of my port. He showed me where my port would be, and he said is shouldn't be a problem at all. I never thought about it actually bothering my band!:rolleyes2:

When I wear my bra I have a harder time catching my breath! :cursing:

I went to the movies with my husband and was seriously considering slipping it off in the theater and stuffing it in my purse! If I had on a more "supportive" top, off it would have come! I didn't want to "flop" around, however!:tongue2:

My port is dead center, right underneath where I think my sternum is. I think the band is is that general area as well. I bought some non-underwire bras, but the support and shape they offer is not good. Hopefully I'll be back to the industrial strength LaMystere bras in a few more weeks.

I'm relieved that it's not just me. I had never heard of this problem before, so I was very surprised when I realized how much the bras hurt. Maybe my boobs will actually shrink as I lose weight, and then I won't need bras made of tire tread material!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
