Why Travel Abroad For Plastic/Cosmetic Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Medical Tourism is getting popular. Though there is still no guarantee of an excellent result of plastic surgery abroad, , more and more people are still traveling abroad for plastic or cosmetic surgeries, especially in this time of recession.

Below are the factors that makes medical tourism favorable for most patients.

1. Cost. This can be the primary reason why people travel abroad. Plastic surgery in Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica, and other popular medical tourism countries are very cheap compared to the US, Canada, or UK. You can save up to 70% if you travel abroad for a plastic surgery (See sample Prices in Argentina).

2. Vacation. Aside from the surgery, you will be able to tour around the place.

3. No Medical Insurance. Most insurance companies do not cover plastic surgeries - but the case may be different with weight loss surgery. So this will be too costly and going abroad may be a better choice.

4. Excellent and board certified plastic surgeons. Most plastic surgeons abroad are board certified and has undergone training in the US or other well-known institutions. These plastic surgeons are very competitive to that in the US, Canada, or UK.

5. Modern clinic, hospitals, and medical facilities. With the state-of-the-art medical centers abroad, the quality of medical care is getting excellent.

Plastic surgery itself is risky and going abroad will not reduce the risk.

I personally wouldnt touch this with a 40 foot pole.

I dont know lots about Mexico, here in Australia, its Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia where this sort of thing is offered.

of course you hear horror stories, but I dont personally believe that these countries offer substandard care. But I do worry about "cosmetic surgery holidays". I feel surgeons who get involved in this sort of thing are more likely to be less than scrupulous, interested in making a quick buck and aware of the fact that if their patients experience problems they will be far away in another country perhaps without the financial resources to follow up.

I simply would never have a surgery with a surgeon who wasnt easily accessible to me in my every day life - lap band, cosmetic or otherwise. Nothing could convince me to do so (especially not coz someone put a poorly disguised ad on a forum).
