Big girl in AZ needs to get some information

Recommended Posts

Hiya. My name is Holly and I am meeting with my family Doc. on Tuesday to tell him I want to have the lap-band. I spoke to my Ins. Company and they say if my Doc says I need they pay. I know there will be hoops but here is the deal. I am 36 years old and weight 315 lbs (143kg), my BMI is 61.5 and I have been hovering between 295 and 315 for about 7 years. I have tried many of the book diets and obviously I just yo-yo'd. I also have sleep apnea, female issues, sugar issues, high blood pressure and serious joint pain, not to mention the inability to breathe if I have to move my body for more then 5 minutes! I know I need I am however worried about all the weight loss before hand. I can't loose weight thats why I need the surgery!!! I will do it if I need to I want a baby so bad this may be my only chance! I cant be a Mom (even if I adopted) being this overweight and unhealthy!

The Lap Band takes a certain amount of discipline in order to work for you. The band will only make you feel full on a small amount of food. It won't take away your cravings for food. It won't keep you from snacking or eating between meals, eating when not hungry, eating unhealthy foods. This is really something you need to be aware of before you decide if the Lap Band is the way to go.

hollyluke, I feel your pain. My niece had your same issues and was banded last year. She was initially told she was infertile (somehow connected to her weight, I don't know all the details).

She was banded so that she could lose weight and hopefully get those issues under control.

She has lost 90 pounds, and in the process ended up getting pregnant! She now has a beautiful little girl! We're all so happy for her and she's very excited that she's still losing weight, too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
