How much weigh loss/how long?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering how long it took most people to lose their weight, any weight for that matter. Is there a certain amount I can expect to lose just with the pre-op diet (Optifast)? Thanks!!!

I lost 23 pounds from pre-op to first fill and a total of 97 pounds in 11 months. I averaged 2 pounds a week. Take a look below for my progress and you will get an idea on how it has gone for me. I think how much you lose really depends on how dedicated you are to eating right, exercising and maintaining fills.

Thanks.

No pics yet I plan to post some when I am actually done with my transformation. It will be hard to find before pics since I always ran from cameras or hid behind people in pictures. My surgeon took one though so if all else fails I could get a copy of that one.

So far, I'm down 46 lbs in 10 months. My rate of loss has been slower than some, but it's been pretty steady -- around 1.4 lbs per week. I've also lost 21.6 inches (!) during the past 10 months!

I am plateauing a bit now because I started a hard core workout program (www.PurePowerBootCamp.com) four weeks ago and have been building more muscle. But, while I've only lost about 2.2 lbs during the last 4 weeks, I have lost 1 inch from my waist and another inch from my hips, so it's still going well! (Though I do get frustrated with the scale.)

Congratulations on your surgery date! I have before & after photos sprinkled through my blog, if you're interested.

Best,

Catherine

I lost a chunk on my preop diet (32 pounds over 5 weeks) and another 9 during the 2 weeks of liquids post op, but then gained some back as I progressed into solid foods. I didn't really get good restriction until my May 7 fill (miracle!) and did NOT diet during the interim (been there, done that) Since that fill I dropped a good chunk, and then have stalled for a bit (that happens) but expect it to pick back up here at any time. At one year I'll probably have averaged around 1 1/2 pounds a week for year 1.

I lost 19lbs during my Optifast and 14 more so far since being banded... which was five days ago. So a total of 33. Everyone is different though, don't get discouraged if you don't lose as much as others and welcome to the family!

In the beginning, I lost the most. The 2 weeks before the surgery and then after the surgery for 4-6 weeks or so, I took off 25 lbs. Then it slowed down until I could get some fills in. I had my surgery in Sept last year. I lost 40 lbs by January. Then from Jan. till May, I lost only 10 lbs. in those 4 months. I had 3 fills though. Then a month ago I had my 4th fill and now I am losing again. I've taken off 10 more pounds in one month. So, you see, the fills matter. You will get to a point where your fill is at the right tightness, and then you should steadily lose weight. I've lost 60 lbs. since 9/9/08.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
