Am I the only hungry one 2 days post op?

Recommended Posts

Actually, I was hungry THE night after I had surgery..... I've heard alot of people say that they are not hungry due to swelling....

I'm very hungry!! I can't stand watching food on T.V. I want it!!!

Am I the only one? Please, I hope I'm not. I want this "tool" to help me succeed!!! I don't want to feel like a failure already!!!

Any encouragement would be helpful!!! Thanks!!

I don't know if I can give you encouragement, but I am definitely in the same boat! I had my surgery last Wednesday and am still pretty much bed ridden, and STARVING! I have been laying in bed watching movies and TV and every time I see food it drives me crazy. I have no energy from sipping on all these fluids and don't know what to do about it. I don't know how my body can heal with no nutrients. I just keep thinking about 2 more days until I can have a Protein Shake or yogurt, and that sounds like a treat:tongue2: Hang in there, this is the worst part. You have to prepare yourself for a couple months of these feelings, but from what I've read they will hopefully go away. You have no reason to feel bad about it and you have not failed. It's part of the process.:)

I was hungry, as well. Try and drink warm broth. It'll help you stay hydrated and help curb your hunger.

Good luck!

FINALLY! I came to in recovery hungry and thirsty!

I got told "it's head hunger" Uh. NO! I'm HUNGRY! LOL

I just gritted my teeth and got through it. I kind of got used to it. Week 2 my surgeon allows Protein Shakes (week one was just Clear Liquids. I almost gnawed my own arm off but it was too fatty! LOL) and the Protein helped a little. Mushies were like manna from heaven...hang in there.

THAT IS NORMAL!! The liquid stage after surgery is the worst part. I was starving, and I don't mean head hunger; I was weak. Once I started on mushies, I was in such relief! Just hang in there, and remember the good part is that you'll probably lose fast while you're on liquids, so there is a benefit.

Oh no, I'm there too. I'm hungry. (done 6/17). I'm sipping, eating Jello and sf popsicles slowly. I'm allowed to have Protein Shakes but they are gross no matter how I Dr. them up. Trying to stay positive. Looking forward to mushies. My stomach won't stop growling! I am so full of gas I feel like I will just explode. Been using gas x strips and walking around the house/yard but not much has helped yet....Blah.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
