extra skin removal...does everyone have too??

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!

I am thinking of getting the lap band done.

My bestfriend keeps telling me to seek info on having the extra skin removed when I am done loosing weight. Is this really something I need to think about?? Does everyone have too?

I don't think everyone has to get surgery to remove excess skin after weight loss. I believe it has to do with your age, the condition of your skin, etc... It's personalized.

Some people's skin shrinks right back, some people have loads of excess skin.

It's hard to determine whether one specific person will experience excess skin or not.

I am gonna have my arms lifted.I used to lift weights but at my age they are not gonna bounce back..It depends on you, age, body size & it takes time..when I wave, my arm wings keep waving, and I hate it.I can hide most everything else..I want whatever I can afford to look & feel better by having excess skin removed..

Not everyone needs it. My dr. has a 45/45 guideline. .he says that if you are 45 YO or more, or have a BMI of 45 or more, you will very probably need skin to be removed. He told me that I probably would not need it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
