Although odds are you'll find someone on here who says yes...I think the answer really should be no. You're still healing and alcohol is pretty counter-productive to that. Plus, many of us lose inhibitions as we drink and that can mean eating/overeating. At 9 days post op letting your band seat well, letting your "innards" heal etc are most important right now. Since your doc isn't available to ask (I'm assuming?) I say better safe than sorry.

Give him/her a call on Monday though and ask, so you'll know for next time.

I agree with restless. I think you should wait longer. Although a cocktail is liquid so there should be no trouble getting it down I don't think it is appropriate at this stage of recovery. It is also full of empty calories which is something I am sure you don't really want.

I drink wine on a fairly regular basis and thought it would be difficult to go without. I haven't had any alcohol since I started my preop diet 5 weeks ago and its actually been easier than I thought. I haven't missed it at all.

Its up to you what you decide but I am sure you will feel better if you stick to your Dr's plan.

I had wine lastnight (I'm 3 weeks post op) per MY dr.s instructions...I was really tight and it did the trick loosening me up...best advice: Do as your Dr. orders...

My doctor told me to wait 1 year before drinking. I guess it's not a big deal for me, though, since I won't be 21 until next July:tongue2:

lol...question is was that one year wait time due to age or his/her rules:confused:

I know somebody else (older than me) who was banded by my doctor, and she said the same thing to her. I should have been a little more specific lol.

9 days, I probably wouldnt and I'm not one for strict rules, and denying yourself. But 9 days out from stomach surgery, alcohol really isnt going to do you much good.

Also .... cocktail..... what sort? Some cocktails are HORRENDOUSLY high in calories.

Personally, I'd stick with wine, something relatively low calorie like that. I think a healthy diet includes your fave tipple now and again, but its pretty hard to account for 700 calorie cocktails on a weight loss diet. Depends wht you mean by cocktain of course.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
