You wish you would have known or somone would have told you before getting surgery?

Also, what are some items you foud most useful after surgery?

Thank you.

I felt pretty informed, so there was nothing I wish someone had told me beforehand. My surgery was yesterday and yes I'm sore, but walking for 5 min. every hour helps alot. Get gas-x for the gas pain in your chest or shoulder and try to burp whenever you can. Good Luck!

I really researched the surgery so I pretty much knew what to expect. But some post op products that I found helpful were gas x strips, a nice, new pillow, baby food, crystal light, some cool dvds to watch , and a nice comfy chair to lay in. Good luck to you.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I feel pretty up-to-speed. We'll find on on Thursday! (the day after my surgery).

However, one thing I see repeatedly in the posts here is the level of nausea that people encounter that they either didn't know about prior or had no anti-nausea medication post surgery.

I would strongly recommend you talk to your surgeon about his prescribing an anti-nausea med for you to take after surgery.

Mine does, which is why I was so surprised to see so many on here have that problem and not have anything to do about it.

My husband's FIRST stop on the way taking me home from the hospital is Walgreens to fill the scripts for Phenergan (anti-nausea) and Celebrex (anti-inflammatory)!

:)

PS: Don't forget the TUMS and the Benefiber, post-surgery, either!

Hi:

You may want to ask your surgeon for the scripts before you get banded so that you can just ride right home when you're recuperating from the surgery. You'll want to make sure you have alot of non-carbonated drinks at home as well as sugar free popsicles. Sugarfree popsicles helped me go from 324 to 181! I still drink diet soda, but I leave it open in the fridge to get most of the carbonation out.

The pain meds were too strong for me. They added to my issues with nausea so I stopped taking them the day after surgery. You might want to make sure you have liquid tylenol at home too.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

Sue

Not that it would have changed my mind, but I wish I knew how noticeable the port was to the touch -- because I probably would have asked my surgeon to place it deeper.

You can feel my port with the slightest touch to my stomach...and as someone who is not open about the surgery, this could potentially be a problem! It is very, very obvious that there is something foreign there.

Makes it easier for the fill nurse, but not me...

A boyfriend pillow saved my life! And take plenty of time off!

so you can ask your surgeon to place it deeper? (if you're willing to deal with a slightly more difficult fill). Thanks for the heads up, I'll talk to my surgeon about that.

I wish I'd realized how important fills are (I knew, but I didn't KNOW! if that makes sense) and how LONG it would take me to finally get restriction. It wouldn't have changed my mind, but would've saved me a lot of disappointment.

After surgery my lip moisturizer, my birkenstock sandals (easy on/off), loose clothes. Tylenol. A pillow to brace my surgical sites when i got up, sat etc. That's it. It was easy! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
