 That may be, but it sure is working for me...and nothing else has in the past. It's not magic, but it sure is close. I hope you find a way to make it work for you, Friend.

Please note: I did not post why it did not work, did I???

Nice job pointing out the obvious, I'm flawed. I'm happy for

the people it did work for.

Nothing works for everyone, that is why there are so many options out there. I firmly believe you really have to look at yourself and your successes and failures in the past and evaluate what is best for you. It sounds like the lap band was not the right choice for you as you seem to have given up on it, but for many it has been widly successful. Good luck in wherever you decide to go next.

I would have thought that was pretty obvious. Nothing works for everyone. Just wondering why the OP felt the need to post this statement?

Oh, I didn't mean that to sound negative. Now that I read back over it, I sound like a total ass. I'm sorry for that. I meant to encourage instead. I should have been more careful about the way I phrased that. I don't agree that you should give up on it. Have you lost any weight whatsoever? Perhaps there is another component to your health that is making it more difficult to lose or to control cravings. Maybe the band plus some other intervention might be what it takes in your particular situation. I think you are feeling really discouraged. It might be that you need something more to do the losing, and the band will be what helps you keep it off. Listen, we're ALL flawed to some extent. If we weren't, we would have lost the weight without the bands, right? None of us is right to get on these message boards and get all self-righteous. I'm sorry if I came across that way. I hope you find success here pretty soon. Hang in there, K? and keep us posted.

You are correct. It does NOT work for everyone. Sure didn't for me, and it did a lot of damage to me in the process.

But, I think it's important to look at the reasons that it did not work, or has not thus far, anyway.

It's entirely possible that it was the WRONG choice for you. There are people on this forum who think if the Lap Band did not work for you then the problem is YOU.

That is totally wrong. It MAY be that you have some part in the failure, but that is not necessarily the case.

Different forms of WLS work much better for different people. Some people need restriction (Band, Sleeve), some people need malabsorbtion (Bypass) some people need hunger abatement to a greater degree (Sleeve, Bypass)....it all depends on the individual.

This is why I encourage people to do a TON of research before they commit to ANY surgery.

Fort some people, the Band is entirely successful. For MOST people, though, the Band is usually only partially successful, but they are still somewhat better off than they would have been without the Band.

So, it's shame that the band has not been successful for you. The important thing, though, is what you are going to do now.

"failure is only important if it is the last time that you try".

HH

The band works when we work it!

Not always.

Yes, you HAVE to work it...it won't work for anyone unless you follow the rules.

But, there are situations where the Band was simply the WRONG CHOICE.

People like to refer to the Band as a "tool". Well, you have to use the RIGHT tool for the job. And Band is not always "it".

I believe there are some people that do not do well with the band for a number of different reasons known only to each specific person. It is not a "fix all." Even those who are successful with the band have to work at it. BUT, there are those that no matter how much they work at it, still do not see results. That is going to happen with anything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
