Dilemma: People please provide me with your opinion

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone:

Anyone's opinion is greatly appreciated. I had emergency ankle surgery 2 years ago because I fell down a hill. The recovery since then has been tough because I always felt I had a limp. Well I recently fell again and when I went to the Dr. he told me I would need another operation because it did not heal correctly and the ligament tore. If I get another ankle surgery I would be off my foot for 6 weeks. Well I had scheduled wls on July 14th, but my ortho dr is telling me I should get this done first. I do not know what to do, I really want wls because I am tired of being this way. FAT I just do not know if my Bariatric surgeon would be willing to do the surgery when I can't exercise. People please share your thoughts. Thanks so much

My girfriend had wls surgery and 3 weeks later had a total hysterectomy. It made it difficult but not impossible. She used the combined time to recover from both and was successful with both surgeries.

Wow thanks, thats very encourageable. I was thinking of doing wls first I thought maybe my weight had something to do with the healing process cause I am so heavy.

I would do the WLS first. Its not like you wont be able to exercise forever, and many people have surgery BECAUSE of chronic injuries - I certainly got banded because of a chronic heel/ankle problem that was preventing me from exercising. However, I was lucky, I had one cortisone shot that gave me real relief for a good 12 months. By the time that was up, I was 70lb down, fit and running regularly.

You could jsut as easily have surgery and THEN have an accident and be able to exercise, its really not reasonable to refuse you a lapband because of this. And you will recover better weighing less.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
