New here - just wondering...........

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering - has anybody ever decided against the Lap band after reading about it?

I am 44 yrs. old with heart problems. After my last little visit to the ER to get my heart back into sinus - my cardiologist talked to me about the lap band. My bmi is 39 - but I am not sure I have both feet in the boat to have this done. I went to Central Baptist (Lexington, KY.) for a seminar and have been reading lots about this procedure - My initial understanding is that you can eat normal foods (not "slider" foods) just low cal and low fat - the lap band is a tool - but I still have to do my part - as with any diet. I have been reading a lot about people throwing up a lot, and some other things.........

What do you think??

Sorry this is so long......

Hi Debbie I think I am on the same boat as you are. I'm not sold on the idea of having something foreign implanted in me. My BMI is 40 no comorbidities other that back pain sometimes. I have been reading through this forum which by the way is the best IMO.I have tried every diet on this planet and have lost weight and always manage to regain it. I have been at my current weight for about 2 years now. So not gaining is good I guess just not loosing despite my best efforts is what scares me and what makes me want to consider WLS. I am going to a nutricion seminar on tuesday which is part of the approval process. I must still be interested huh..

I think if people decided against lap-band, they probably wouldn't be posting here in the first place. Continue your investigation and research and talk to the chosen doctor about your concerns, that's really the best way to find out what the best option is for you.

I have a friend who had lapband with good success which is why I got interested. Then a coworker and I both decided to do something about our weight about the same time, I opted for the lapband, it just seemed the best answer for me and I am not comfortable with rerouting my digestive track or the complications that come from the GB. That being said, the coworker that I started this journey has since changed and is planning on going with Gastric Bypass. We both consulted different doctors, nutritionists and so on and made different decisions based on our needs and life style. So what I am saying is you have to do your research, but also have to do a lot of personal reflection about what life style changes you personally can and will make to make this successful. I believe the answer to that is different for each and every person. Only you will know what is right for you after you research all the options. Good luck to you on your journey, there are lots of good sites out there with boat loads of information on all the options, really take a good look and interview doctors to see who your beliefs most mesh with. Then you will know which choice is right for you.

Hi,

I am being banded this coming Thursday and I am nervous but also excited. The band is only a tool, it's not magic. I am prepared for a long road ahead. My BMI is 41, I have high blood pressure that is all over the place, most of the time it's under control, but than for some reason, probably my weight and diet it get very high. I am hungry all the time and it take a lot of food for me to get full. I am hoping that the band will allow me to feel full quicker allowing me to lose weight, but I know it's going to be up to me to make it work.

I have been reading about this for two months now and have heard and read more good things than bad so I would suggest read all you can find on the band and be totally comfortable with you decision.

Good Luck what ever you decide to do!!

Hi There. I had bmi of 40 and also have afib(tendency towards being out of sinus rythem. I am on beta blocker and had put a lot of weight on due to the beta blocker and afib making me tired (PLUS eating too much). I am also a registered :thumbup:nurse. I went with lap band surgery last week. This past week I have not felt one bit of flutter! I am also already down 10 pounds since surgery and 8 before! I cant say that it is right for you because of this, but so far I am feeling statisfactory results  Good luck! Jill

Jill

Thank you so much for the info. I am so happy for you. As you know - when your ticker does not tock....things go south from there....

I have spoken to several people about this - including other Drs. I was amazed at how many people have looked into being Lap banded and they all have nothing but positive words and even information.

Again....

THANK YOU!

And I hope you have continued success with your band and no more afib.

Debbie

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
