DB1119 0 Posted June 19, 2009 Hi All, I am just beginning the process. I have a question. I have a fatty liver (diagnosed years ago). Will this prevent me from having the surgery? Thanks, Dawn
OnTheWay to Thin 0 Posted June 19, 2009 It depends on your doc and the severity of the problem. They may have you go on a special liver shrink diet for a while to lessen the issue as I have seen that done many times. Talk to the dr and they will let you know what you need to do. TopTier 0 Posted June 19, 2009 I wonder how you diagnose a fatty liver?

OnTheWay to Thin 0 Posted June 19, 2009 They can tell by liver function tests that there is an issue (this is a simple blood test) and they will usually confirm with an ultrasound of the liver.
malissa 0 Posted June 20, 2009 I also was diagnosed with a fatty liver well before surgery. My doctor emphasized the importance of sticking to the pre-op diet. I did - and the surgery was a success the first time around. Good Luck!
DB1119 0 Posted June 22, 2009 The fatty liver was diagnosed through a blood test. I have blood tests annually to monitor my Liver Enzymes. When the fatty liver was first discovered I had a liver biopsy to rule out cirhosis & hepatitis.
