I want to commend you for two very positive things you shared... one you recognize that you need help with the eating end of the use of the lapband tool and you have joined Overeaters Anonymous and also have an appointment with a nutritionist. Keep logging your food eaten every single day no matter how bad a day it was. Hold yourself accountable. Putting it down on paper is the way to do that. Use an online food tracker like fitday.com or dailyplate.com or whatever is best for you.

Good luck!

I don't know what size band you have etc...but I can tell you with 100% honesty that once you finally get restriction and hit what they call on here "the sweet spot" (my doc calls it the "green zone") it is a whole new way of life. I have lost over 1/2 of my total loss to date since 5/7 when I FINALLY hit restriction.

I won't diet and use sites like the daily plate because I become so darned obsessed with food. That's not why I got the band. I want to be FREE of thinking about it, not over concerned with it, and when I "diet" I think about food all the time. Now I truly go hours.

The first night I realized this I was up very late and around 2 am I thought "Wow something's wrong with my stomach. About then it growled and I thought OMG I"m HUNGRY" LOL sounds so silly, doesn't it? But I'd eaten my meal at 8pm and hadn't even thought about food (or a snack) since then. It had been right at 6 hours! I thought "HALLELUJAH! I'm FREE!" LOL and most days that is the way it goes. If I choose filling nutritious foods for my meals I am not hungry for hours. Makes it easy to pass up the bad stuff. Who eats thinking "I want this so I can be hungry again in an hour" ? No one.

It'll happen for you and if you are a good dieter and can diet without becoming a raving lunatic like I do, then just watch your calorie intake . Either way, restriction will most likely change things up for you in a big way.

thanks for responding restless monkey,

well here is an update on me i got a fill last wednesday and im feeling very tight. i have restriction alot and thought about going to get some removed but, thougth i can hang in there. i have been eating Soup, yogurt,s/f pudding, Water, any thing soft really. so im ok with that. i started going to over eaters ann. and i like it. and i have been writing down what im eating and that is really helping me be accountable for what im eating. i seem to be eating like 1050 calories or less a day. im slowly getting back into my workout. over all im glad i got the fill. i know im not at my sweet spot as i cant eat much only soft as i said. but, was told it will get loser in about a wk or two.

Sounds like you have a plan! That's great! I know that I, now, do better if I eat something like steak or chicken breast (dry) because a little will fill me up and last for HOURS whereas I could eat a bucket of yogurt! :smile2:

That's the great thing about the band, though; we all get to use it in the way that works for us! Hang in there and keep in touch!

You maybe should discuss this with your surgeon, because I know that PB'ing a lot isn't good for us, nor is being too tight (aside from the fact that you can't eat well, it can cause acid reflux among other things, and do you damage over time). A slight unfill may help you be able to eat more and actually boost your weight loss.

Just something for you to think about and decide.

Yes, I think a LOT of band problems (not all, but a lot) can be avoided if we would go to the doctors when things first are wrong, instead of trying to wait them out!

Good for you going; you'll do well I'm sure, able to eat more lean poultry/proteins etc.

And my name is Jeff...I am female, just have a male name! (long story there!) anyway I'm glad you called your doc.

hey jeff well i went and none was taken out as i eat 1/2 of a chix breast and some potatoes and it went down fine. so i was told if i have any (pb) to come back. and i feel happy with that. so im watching it closely. but, the dr did tell me that some times it takes up to 2wks for it to get loose.

i think we have spoke before but, lost contact with each other. hope we chat more often.

I'm glad you went! So, you'll probably lose a little better (if you want to) by eating things that fill you up with smaller quantities, like the chicken breast for example. I don't know why you threw up eggs but they supposedly give some people trouble. Just make sure you take small bites and chew well!

And of course if you want to keep things like yogurt etc in your diet that's your prerogative and part of the beauty of the band. Personally they tend to just make me hungry but we're all different! I find 2 ounces or so of a good steak will hold me literally for 6 hours, whereas if I eat something softer like, say, a bean burrito? I'm starved in about 3. Since right now I really want to lose, I'm choosing the more dense meats and poultries, but again, that doesn't work for everyone.

I'm sure you'll find the way that works best for you; you're trying and that's the most important part!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
