volleymom 1 Posted June 19, 2009 I was banded June 3, and with the two week pre-op diet, then liquid stage, then soft foods stage - I thought surely I would have lost more than 8 lbs. I know it can be slow going for some of us but I was looking for a little more scale-reward after 4 weeks of "dieting." Does anyone have any advice/reassurance for me? Brockbabe82 0 Posted June 19, 2009 8 pounds is wonderful and nothing you shouldn't be proud of! The period between banding and first fill is very difficult, probably why they call it bandster hell.lol . Some people even gain during this period. Give your body a chance to heal, and get a fill, and things should start moving in the right direction. Until then relax and keep doing what your doing. Good luck and keep your head up! ta0726 0 Posted June 19, 2009 Thank you for your response Brockbabe....I tried to stay off the scale and thought I was doing well, but turns out I gained 3lbs. It is very upsetting and making me wonder if I made the right choice.

YngGram 73 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) keep it simple, remember that 1-2 lbs per week is great! follow the instructions you have been given and it will come together. measure you food, get your liquids in, relax and let the tool work. 2livesmart 0 Posted June 19, 2009 You are doing fine because you are losing. The weightloss is slower with the band. i just had this conversation with my Dr. yesterday. I was banded December 31st. i've lost 27 pounds. For my weight my doctor said that I ma on target. I average about a pound a week. Hang in there and you will start seeing more progress after a few months.
gingerbug 3 Posted June 19, 2009 8 pounds is great. I averaged two pounds a week throughout the whole first year and I made my goal weight. Be patient. Also, I found that the liquid/mushy stages means we eat lots of food with sodium which easily puts 3 or more pounds on me. Are you eating lots of Soups? broth? Cut the sodium down to 1500 - 2000 for three days and see what happens.
Carriedaway78 0 Posted June 19, 2009 I can sympathize. I was banded May 20th, and since surgery I've lost 10.5 lbs. Now, I thought I was doing pretty well, but I've seen others on here who were banded around the same time as me, and they've lost alot more. I know that everyone is different, but it was a bit discouraging. Since the pre-op diet I've lost 26 lbs, but since surgery, I thought I would have lost more than 10. I'm not going to really worry about it, but to see others losing more than me can be a bit hard at times. Hang in there, we'll make it eventually.
a-newme 0 Posted June 19, 2009 I too can sympathize. I have lost 9 pounds since my surgery on 04/23. For the last three weeks I haven't lost any weight. I'm going in for my 3rd fill today. Hopefully it will be the right amount. Keep smiling and trooping on, it will come off eventually. p
volleymom 1 Posted June 19, 2009 Thanks to all of you for your support!! I tell myself that 8 lbs in four weeks is awesome!!! But like other posters have said - I get a little discouraged when I read about other people who have lost a lot more than that in the same amount of time. I don't care - if I average 1-2 lbs a week from here on out I will be on top of the world!!!
Lana24 10 Posted June 19, 2009 Hello all, I say don't worry so much. I know it is so hard in the beginning I have been there. I still hate to weigh so I have to rely on the "facts" of the situation. Am I eating right? Am I exercising? Am I following doctors orders. All that and I still "weigh" heavy but I seriously look like I have lost about 50 pounds. So I say don't rely on the scale, we all know it lies anyway!
Bobbie155 0 Posted June 20, 2009 I am 7 months post op and am only losing 1lb a week so I know how depressing it can be but I am trying to stay positive. Hope you can do the same.
staplegater 0 Posted June 20, 2009 It's going to be a VERY bumpy road until you get a fill. Once you get that first fill and actually feel a full, satisfied feeling after a few bites of food, it will all be worth it. The weight loss will come when your band is functioning properly, and right now your body is just healing. Good luck. You'll be just fine.
