6 days post op and starving

Recommended Posts

I cannot bear to eat the 3 tbsp broth, 3 tbsp protien drink, and 3 tbsp of sugar free Jello. It makes me sick just to think about them. The only think I want to eat are sugar free popsicles, hot herbal Decaf tea, and crystal light. I am dying to have something of substance. Any ideas.

You chose your doc/surgeon for his expertise so now is not the time to go against your doc's advice.

If you are on a liquid diet you have tons of things at your disposal to eat/drink.

If you are on a clear liquid diet choices are reduced a bit but still alot to choose from.

But if you are on a 3 tbsp diet....I don't know what to tell you. How long do you have to wait in between each 3 tbsp for?

My post op was eat when hungry. I could have had an entire can of broth....if I wanted it...but slowly.

Call the nurse and ask her what you can have at this point. But be sure to tell 'em that you are starving!

EGG DROP SOUP!! I am really glad that I had more wiggle room. Came home on full liquids, so if it was smooth I could have it. Also, I could have ozs. of stuff, but your plan should get you really going, hang in there and pump in the liquids, they should help keep the hunger at bay.

The clear liquid diet must be doing good. I weighed myself this morning, 1 week post op and.....I have lost 15 pounds so far. Whoooo Hooooo!!! I am trying to stay as true to the clear liquids as possible. Today I get to start having milk, Tomato juice, and creamed Soups. Yeah for variety.

So does that mean drinking something like a jamba juice or some type of fruit smoothie was ok for you on your post op diet during full liquid phase?

Currently clear liquids only. 3 meals a day each meal consisting of 3 tbsp broth, 3 tbsp protien drink, and 3 tbsp of sugar free Jello. Also allowed a sugar free popsicle and unlimited sugar free clear drinks.

OMG, bless your heart! No wonder you are starving! I am going to have to follow a liquid diet, but I know I will be able to have broths and sugar-free drinks and Water unlimited and sugar free Jello. I know I will have to limit sugar free popsicles and sugar-free, fat-free puddings. AFter you make it through this diet, I should think you will be VERY successful with your band.

Good luck to you hun, stay strong!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
