How in the world do I know what to get!! LOL

Recommended Posts

You guys are great! But you are telling me too many different things! LOL I don't know what kind of anything to try! LOL I appreciate reading all of your post though. Heck, until now I didn't even know there was soy protien and whey protien! Never even thought of trying soy milk, which I bought some tonight and its actually good. I am going shopping this weekend, trying to get some things stocked up for my pre op diet. I have no clue what kind of drink mixes to get! LOL

Anyways, Thanks you guys! You are so much support for us pre banders!

I did a lot of Slim Fast Protein Shakes. The low carb ones. I also used Boost drinks. I still do them when I don't have enough Protein in for the day. Sometimes I have to add a Protein Powder in with it also. Try to track your protein in and get at least 60 grams. I have really been slack this week and have not kept up with it. Good luck with your surgery.

I was not allowed the boost per my doctors orders so I did the Atkins shakes and powders. The best bet is talk to your doctor and see if there are any restrictions. Also buy stuff from The Vitamin Shoppe or other places that will allow you to return it if you don't like it. Trader Joe's also has a great return policy. Try to get single cans or single serve packets just to sample as some people have said certain brands were gross. ~Mandy

Congratualtions on your band date. Right now you should just buy things in small quantities to taste them becuase after surgery you are not going to be eating anything. You are not going to want anything. You will need liquids such as gatorade, crystal light, light grape juice, fat free popsicles and ff pudding. I also love Atkins Advantage shakes.< /p>

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
