OK, I'm officially frightened!

Recommended Posts

My biopsy came back from my EGD; there is an ulcer with a lot of inflammation in the stomach. They tested for H.Pyloric bacteria; it's negative. They tested for cancer, first time it was positive but after re-testing, negative. The GI doc wants me to take Protonix for 90 days. He "thinks" the inflammation is caused from taking Advil. I didn't take it that much, but apparently if taken in close proximity to the testing I guess it can show up an inflammation. Obivously, the banding has been put off. Now for the truly scary part: I talked to band surgeon today about this. He wants me to see endocrinologist for a nuclear test on the stomach. They want to test for and rule out a carcinoid tumor. Holy crap! NOW I'm scared. :blink:There is a history of cancer on my mother's side, but not stomach - breast/uterine and prostate cancer, but nothing more exotic. My Dad's side, IDK, as he died of renal failure back in the 80s. Has anyone had this situation with an ulcer and being sent to an endocrinologist for this type of testing? How did it turn out for you? :blushing:

where did you go for your testing? I went Fri and like you they took a biopsy.... I have had wicked burning in my stomach for 3 weeks.. I have been under immense stress lately so I chock it up to that. so I have been taking my husbands reflux meds to help.... which happen to be what you were prescribed! Protonix. I am being tested for the H. Pylori bacteria which I understand can go hand in had with Gastritis 2 things that are very common things according to the nutritionalist. They told me no ulcers or hernias... they did not mention the tumor word but after I came home I was freaking.

Apparently Aleve and Advil can really mess up your stomach and I have taken a lot of that for aches, and pains.

How many days til you received your results? It is Wed and I am still waiting.

hang in there..... My mom has had cancer 3 times in 5 years... lung, ovarian and colon. she is 61 and still kicking ;o) Maybe it is good we are having these tests done while we are younger to catch any potential problems before they are big!

The testing was done by my lap-band doctor's choice of gastroenterologists. The results took 9 working days to come back (test done June 5th; results in yesterday.) I'm just very scared of the possibility of anything worse going on. I also have a hiatal hernia, but that's common and will be repaired during the band surgery IF we ever get to the band surgery. An endocrinologist will have to clear me first now that they "suspect" a carcinoid tumor and need the stress test to confirm or deny. I'm terrified if it should come back positive. I'm praying that it will be negative and all for nothing. I just wonder if anyone has been down my path before and what the results were in the end.

Now often are you taking Advil, how much, and with what? Too much is REALLY bad for your stomach, especially if you take it on an empty stomach. Aspirin is the worst for an ulcer. Don't touch the stuff. Always read the bottle and take the correct dosage. I'm only in nursing school but I get at my friends for just "taking a few" to get rid of the pain.

I hope your tests come back negative. Hopefully it's just a little inflammation and the Protonix will knock it out. It's good stuff. Keep your stress levels down because that's gonna make the stomach worse.

Keep us posted.

I don't take it since discovering this situation. I didn't take it that much to start with. IDK what's going on, but I hope it turns out to be nothing at all......still very concerned, though.:blushing:

GUESS WHAT? My gastroenterologist called me today thinking that he hadn’t already called me. I said, “You called me already.” So he says well is there anything you want to ask me since you have me on the phone and I told him the whole cancer scare story. He said, “Pardon me?!?” Then he proceeded to tell me that the band doctor had me mixed up with another patient and I DON’T HAVE THAT!! Whew!!!! The band doctor then called me and apologized for the scare and confirmed he told me the wrong information. Now they'll submit to the insurance company and it should be approved soon, I hope. I am soooo relieved!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
