I'm finishing up month number 1 of my 3 month pre-approval insurance red-tape dance with Aetna.

What are they looking for as far as weight loss?

I guess I'm scared of losing weight during this time because I don't want them to think... "Well look how well she did! She doesnt need the band!"

but I'm also scared of gaining because I don't want them to think I don't have the self control it takes to live life with the band.

And thats how my weight goes....

I'm either losing or gaining....

what are they looking for during this time?

I had the same question during my 6 month medically supervised diet. After reading much about it, I am fairly certain that honestly that they don't care how much weight you lose. They just want to make sure you are committed to a weight loss program. The only thing I would be concerned about would be going lower than the BMI that would approve you (most likely 40). I only lost 10 lbs on my 6 month diet. I so badly wanted to get a jump start on my weight loss but I just coulndn't get my head into the game!

Good luck.

They just don't want you to gain weight. They want to see that you can commit yourself and follow a diet program. Its one of those things where they think if they cannot follow a diet preop they will not do it post op. So I don't think there is a specific number to lose. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
