Another pre-op question

Recommended Posts

Ok, finally got pre op instructions in the mail, i need to start this tuesday.

Question - says 70-80 grams of Protein divided up in 3 meals plus clear liquids--no dairy. No caffiene. Would de caf coffee be allowable? And would like Coffeemate non-dairy, sugar free hazelnut Creamer be allowed? It also says s/f Jello. What about non-dairy cool whip type topping?

Any help on this would be appreciated.

I'm more stressed just trying to figure out what i can have that wont make me feel deprived at the same time...i understand after the lapband - thats cool cuz your basically not hungry, etc...but this two weeks prior - i imagine headaches due to no caffiene, etc.

Im excited im close..just want to have everything i can have so i still have choices - ya know???

you should def ask your doctor what he or she would allow.

every doctor is different.

im on preop myself. Im allowed caffine but one cup a day the point is because it dehydrates you and they want you to stay hydrated.

as for cool whip im not to sure thats ok. I was told im allowed a lil skim milk with my coffee.

I agree with you, this is def not easy. Try to see this as a job. you have to get this done to make the surgery as succesful as possible. This isnt permanent.

This is a test of our will. Trust me im trying to figure out how ill get through it..try to keep with the Protein and ive drank tons of sugar free icedtea...

keep busy. and ull be there in no time.

thank you...i do know its not easy and for a short time..but i gotta tell you, i love my morning coffee and diet cokes (i only have one LARGE one at lunch)...i often used to think i could give up food..just let me have my diet cokes..so thats a big challenge for me!

tho i do hear at some point people are able to drink them..my dr says "no" for 3 months.....

anyway, thanks for the reply!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
