Acid reflux after fill?

Recommended Posts

Hi, to all. I haven't been on here in awhile. I haven't had any problems with acid reflux in the past. I was wondering if anyone else might have. It mostly happens when I'm asleep early morning. I feel as tho right at the base of my throat I need to swallow and I can birp acid kind of hot stuff. My fill in not to tight. I can eat mostly anything, but have to chew really good. I'm happy with that part. If anybody has some advise on this I would like their oppinion. Thanks!

I had that problem with fill # 4, wasn't too tight but started having reflux. I found that two things helped, one was not eating or drinking at least 3 hours before bed and the other was a reflux med that my doctor prescribed. Guess my stomach is sensitive to the band at a certain restriction. Good luck!

This was my question

I have been banded for a year now! All is perfect until now!

My band is not tight at all, and i can eat small portions of food and not get stuck!

Recently in the past 3 weeks or so, when i am sleeping i wake up as if i was being chocked! I keep burping and swallow only salavia and a huge discomfort is felt not in my port but my throat!

Yesterday, i also woke up alarmed and forced myself to puke, and only saliva foam came out!

Remember this feeling i only have @ night when i am sleeping and wake up alarmed!

I cannot go to the doctor as i cannot afford him this month (he charges 150 USD) and i am self pay all the way, also if he wants me to have tests i cannot pay them..

Seems we have the same issue, what did u do if i may know please  thanks

PRILOSEC, every day. Just make it part of your new routine. I have been filled and unfilled three times now. If I had started the prilosec the first time, probably could have gone without the unfills and not wasted several months of stress.

If you still have problems with the Prilosec then it may be that you are too tight, but try it first. Stay away from acidy foods as well.

Good luck.

So glad to hear someone else had a feeling of a little bone or hair stuck in the back of your Throat. I have found that it only happens when I don't get in enough Water. When I wake up in the mornings my band feels very tight too. I am not sure if it is because I sleep on my side or not. I find drinking more water helps it go away. I had my first fill on Friday and I can tell a big diffrence. Love this site :crying:

I have had heart burn, but not acide reflux (no problem at night and no feeling of something washing up) ever since my last fill in October. Since then, I've been slightly unfilled 3 times and still have the heartburn.

The bad news is that I can pretty much eat anything now, even bread which I couldn't do before, yet I still have heartburn. Doc looked at me under fluro twice and says I'm fine. I don't know what to think....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
