Pre Surgery Diet...Having some Trouble

Recommended Posts

My surgeon had me do 2 weeks of Atkins..(no problem) and now 2 weeks of Optifast. Problem! I am on day 4 and I will tell you that I had to break down and have a salad and a Lean Pocket because if I did not my pets might not have been safe! Ha! Did anyone else out there have a problem sticking to 2 weeks pre op diet? I feel bad like if I cannot deal with this what am I going to do after surgery? Help!

Don't beat yourself up for slipping today. It's not an indicator of how the band will work for you. We ALL have trouble sticking to diets or we wouldn't get a band.

Surgeons are all different with their pre-op diets. I had to do one week of liquids, and it was a looooong week! Hang in there - just take it a day at a time!

Hi Terrilen, I too had to do a ten day liquid diet like Anne and I too didn't stick to it. I only cheated a couple of times, but made sure that I only ate Protein when I did cheat. And the closer I got to surgery day....I was VERY good. And like Anne said, don't beat yourself up about it. If we could suceed at weight loss, we wouldn't need the band. I was banded 7 days ago and am recovering slow but sure. I had to have my gall bladder removed at the same time. Two for the price of one. It's tough, but it will be so worth it in the long run. The diets are intended so that the surgery and healing time goes smoothly. My prayers go with you.

Hi Terrilen, Thanks for the Good Wishes and most of all prayers. They must be working because I feel GREAT today. Each day it is amazing how much better you feel as you heal. My husband and I went to McDonalds this morning. I drank my coffee while he ate his big beautiful bacon egg and cheese biscuit right in front of me and guess what? It didn't bother me one bit. It's not an issue anymore. I wasn't hungry. Now that I am feeling better, I have even been preparing meals for him. This band is just so unbelievable!!! I LOVE IT. You will too. When is the big day for you? Take Care

Macabella

I was on ChoiceDM Jello. That was not doing it for me my gluclose levels would drop too low. My dietitian included in my diet Of couse any diet clear sodas, but also non fat puddings, along with my drink, and jello. I was able to drink up to four drinks a day, and 2 yogurts.

Hey Matt, I think we ALL agree that the liquid diet thing is the worse. I couldn't even watch food commercials on TV. The thing that got me through was Jello, and I fell in love with popsicles. Even now after my band is in place, I love sugar free popsicles. I like the chocolate Protein Drinks, but sometimes they have a funny after taste. My All time favorite was Atkins creamy vanilla. Best wishes and prayers to you Matt.

It takes your body 3 days of the liquid diet to get used to it, after 3 days of it it is easier, as far as thepost op diet, you will be amazed at how not hungry you are in thefirst week or so, there isso much swelling and gas that food is not a thought.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
