I have been doing alot of research on the lap band and have decided to have it done in late November, early December but the only thing I havent been able to find much about is the post op meds. Are they just pain killers for after the surgery? Are they long term meds that I will be one for months or maybe years? I would love it if someone would be able to give me some insight as to what the meds are exactly, and if it helps I am having dr. kirstenbaumb in CO do my lap band. Thanks so much for any imput!

Didn't need any post op meds - painkiller in hospital the first night, then tylenol one day at home. That's it. Oh and I am more careful to take a chewable Multivitamin on a daily basis. That's it for me!

Good luck!

When I had my surgery they gave me two perscriptions. One was percocets for pain, I think I had enough for 5 day post op. They also gave me a stool softener because I guess that is a significant problem amoung bandsters. As far as any medications for life, that would be Vitamins. It is essential to take a Vitamin, that way we do not lack any nutrients.

I was given about 3 days worth of liquid loritab and anti-nausea meds. I bought some liquid Tylenol for adults at wal-mart and use it as needed. My surgery was 9 days ago I haven't used the tylenol on 2 days. But, at least I have it. You'll also need multi-vits, chewable or liquid.

I didn't take any of my pain meds. My doc requires a multivitimin until I was on mushies. (2 weeks) and 20 mg Pepcid twice a day for 2 months so I don't form an Ulcer. Thats it for me.

Like Brockbabe, I got a prescription for a liquid pain med. Never took it, never took anything at all. My internist TOOK ME OFF all my meds (blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes as of the day of surgery). I take a Vitamin everyday. That's it. That's the whole reason I did this -- to get off all those pills. I cannot describe to you my daily joy that a handful of pills is no longer a part of my daily routine. My vitamin effervesces (just like Alka-Seltzer) and I add a little Benefiber to it, and some orange-flavored Crystal Light for taste. That's all there is!!! Yipppeeeeeee

I was given liquid roxicet for pain (never used it), plus anti-nausea pills (haven't had to use them either). I was already on nexium - so that's it from my doctor. But they also stress taking a Multivitamin (mine's chewable) and Calcium (again, chewable).

On my own, I take extra Vitamin D3 (we don't get enough), Omega 3 fish oil (chewable) and some other meds for allergies and breast cancer.

And Boniva (for osteoporosis) might be looming in my future (my cancer meds plus weight loss can cause bone loss). So, I doubt I'll ever be pill free!

You just have to make sure all meds are tolerated by your band. Some need to be crushed, split or chewable. Good luck.

My doc said that we'd all need a good multivitamin (that's not uncommon...even un-banded people would usually be well advised to take a good multi!), a Calcium supplement (don't know if that's everyone or just women) and we might need b-12. That's IT. We're given (most of us) some type of prescription pain med post op but that is very short term.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
