I'm Starving!

Recommended Posts

I got banded Tuesday night - I ate 3 Jello cups at the hospital that first night. Yesterday and today I've eaten my weight in Clear Liquids and I AM HUNGRY! Is there anything else that we can have other than popsicles, jello and broth?

Are you eating sugar free Jello and popsicles? I hate artificial sweeteners, but when I was on liquids I felt no hunger as long as I stayed sugar free. The minute I tried a regular popsicle I wanted to eat everything in sight.

They told me to only eat sugar filled stuff this week as my body will be getting its only energy from the sugar. Could that be it? Sugar and me have never gotten along.

I just got banded Aug 24, 2005 and I only got liquids for a couple of weeks. Did they tell you to drink a Protein Drink? The Protein is what fills you up. I drink Isopure that you get from GNC. Maybe you could try that. Pam

Wow, it is amazing how different each doctor is with their after care. I am on a full liquid diet for the first 3 weeks (banded 9/12/05 the day before you)

This is my menu until I go back for my 3 week check up - that is when I can move to mushies.

Beverages:

Skim or 1% milk

Low sugar, decaffeinated, non-carbonated Fluid (crystal light, Fruit2o, etc)

Low sugar, low fat, high Protein supplements (CIB, Protein shakes)

Dairy products

Low fat, light yogurt

SF, FF pudding & custard

Low fat cottage cheese (blended)

Soup

Low fat cream Soups thinned down with 1 cup low fat milk (strained of chunks or blended)

Low fat broth

Miscellaneous

Plain hot cream of wheat or otameal (must be pourable consistancy)

SF popsicle

unsweetened applesauce

SF Gelatin

So far I haven't been hungry but I am getting in 3-4 CIB with Carb Countdown milk so that I keep up my protien. The rest of the day I'm sipping Water or popsicles.

Good luck,

I've been on Isopure since 10 days before my surgery. My doctor told me that I would be on it for awhile. at least til my first fill which is Sept 29, 2005. The Isopure that I get is like a jucie drink. I like the Blue Raspberry the best. This is a good source of Protein.

Hope this helps. Pam

Congrats on your banding!

Make sure you are getting plenty of Protein, it always seemed to keep me full for a bit. I too went through the starving phase until my first fill. I'm not totally restricted, but it has given me some control.

Best of luck to you!

I was supposed to be on clear liquids only, which doesn't include Proteins. I decided, after reading many other peoples diets, that 1/4 cup of Protein drink when I'm especially starving wouldn't hurt. So far, no pain and my body is not reacting badly to them at all. Best of all, I'm not hungry!

Welcome to the Banded Gentry. Booga, sunshine, you are in no danger of death by starvation, for a little while anyway. Trust me, you will be fine. Honest to goodness, you will be fine.

You already know that sugar is a danger for you, so stay away from it. Protien and fat keep you from feeling hunger.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
