Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to get your opinion on something. I am going to a university right now, and I am kind of having a hard time following the diet. The life of a POOR college student can be pretty dismal at times.

Do you have any tips on food that would be okay to eat but something super cheap? I don't know what to do.

And, I think I am able to eat a little more than I should be able to. I won't be able to get another fill until I go home in July, and my best friend is coming home after a mission for 1 1/2 years. She doesn't know I had the surgery, and I want to surprise her with a big weight loss. The amount of food I am able to eat is A LOT less than I was able to eat but quite a bit more than I could eat after surgery.

Did that last paragraph make any sense? Hahaha. I'm tired. Any ideas?

tuna salad and egg salad are quite economical to make. Peanut Butter is ok for a snack and filling. Remember, soon you will be getting full on small amts of food so you will be surprised how far even a supermarket pre-cooked chicken will go. You can make chicken salad, put it in some fat free gravy, salsa, or any sauces you enjoy!

Do you have a meal plan at school? I know they have fruit, and salad bars at these places. Also they serve some sort of Protein with their meals, and you could probably accomadate them to your meals. Like it was said before, tuna is cheap, nuts, Protein Powder, etc. There are many things you could find, look in the grocery stores weekly ads. Good luck!

I am also a POOR college student.

When I eat at school, I eat a small salad.

If I eat out for cheap, I go to wendys and get a small chili..its super good.. full of Protein and like 210 cal

I buy lean cuisines when they are on sale.

food doesn't have to be expensive. The best thing you can do for yourself is stock up on healthy things at the store and bring your food with you. That is cheaper than eating out and you can control how much and what you are eating better that way.

Here are some food ideas for you:

Soups

tuna salad

turkey meat (cold cuts)

chicken breast (you can cook it)

refried Beans (watch the fat content though, but good for protein)

cottage cheese

eggs

Good luck with this -- hang in there!

Catherine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
