Dr. Benjamin Hoxworth - Very Professional and Very Competent

Recommended Posts

I really like Dr. Hoxworth. He's very professional and competent. He's serious about his surgeries. Don't let the serious part turn you off, he's also very caring. If you follow his instructions, you will be successful. I owe a lot to him for the success I am having. Great man, great surgeon.

My surgery is also with Dr. Martin, but mine will be in two weeks on August 31st. I am on the pre-op diet right now. Are you going to the support group meetings? I have been to the last three, but will miss the one on Thursday of this week due to Open House at my school. My husband is going to go for me. I like going to them. I can let you know more after I get my band put on.

Thanks for posting on Dr. Hoxworth. My insurance restricted me to Central Carolina Surgery, and I wasn't thrilled because I had a much better experience during my research with a surgeon while I was living in Phoenix. I selected Dr. Hoxworth because I'd heard from a recent Bandster that she liked his bedside manner, even though he'd only done her first fill, not her surgery. I really liked him during my consult, and my insurance was just approved, so it'll be point of no return soon! Thanks for sharing...makes me feel better about it.

Dr. Hoxworth and Dr. Martin are both great. I've not had any experience with the other two surgeons. Both are super easy to work with and make you feel comfortable. Dr Hoxworth is my doctor, but Dr. Martin did a quick un-fill for me the other week and was just as nice to deal with.

The only not-so-great thing is that appointments for those guys fill pretty quickly since they are only in office a few days out of the week, and are doing surgeries the rest. Usually my fills are 6-9 weeks apart (which is either just right, or sometimes too soon for me!), and if I have to reschedule, it usually takes another few weeks. Though I was just recently Enlightened on the fact that if I really need to get in for a fill, to leave a message for Dr H instead of talking to the front desk, and he will see about fitting fills in. Other than that, the whole office is great! You won't be disappointed.

Dr. Hoxworth did my surgery back in February and I'm a big fan! I love that he's so calm because I figure he'll stay calm and collected in the OR.

He only did the first few fills and now they've switched to using a Lap Band Clinic, a PA and a nurse, who come in on Fridays to do fills. I really like the PA although I've forgotten his name, lol!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
