Shopping list to get ready for post-op

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Thursday of this week!!!

I need to go shopping for things I might need for the next several phases so I am ready to go!!!

What did you shop for for the first few phases of the diet and each catagory below? I am also having my tonsils removed at the same time and I am SO much more worried about that then the band! I have to avoid anything red (popcicles etc) due to the tonsils early on!

Anything you can put under these catagories (what you shopped for or what you ate) will be so helpful!!!

I do have some Protein Powder and will have some Optifast shakes left as I am not getting them all in at this point and will have a few leftovers.

1) liquids

2) Mushies

3) Comfort Items or med supplies

For liquid stage, Isopure, snapple type drink with 40g Protein in each 20 oz bottle, available at GNC.

Also chicken broth. I find warn chicken broth very comforting. I've been using Herb Ox, but I find it very bland, so have been adding Mrs Dash. I just ordered a chicken broth Protein Powder from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury.com. I hope its good because I ordered a large container.

Congratulations!! I put photos on my blog of all of the things I bought for my liquids diet. Feel free to take a look (it's at the very beginning). The things I most enjoyed were:

Soups, which I'd blend until they were very liquid;

cottage cheese (thinned out in the blender with skim milk);

Yogurt;

Fat Free/Sugar Free Jello pudding (chocolate);

FF/SF ice pops;

baby food (I bought an organic brand); and

Isopure Protein drinks (the Gatoraid-like kind).

Best wishes for a safe surgery & speedy recovery,

Catherine

I was going to say juices but the acidity in them might be painful. For the liquid stage I basically lived on Water, apple juice, milk, popsicles and sustagen which is an all mineral and Vitamins drink. Then when I went onto mushies I just had whatever the family did but added more liquid so it was a thinner consistency. It's easier and if you can't afford to go out and buy different things then it's better. As for comfort things? Heat pads are great for most afterwards =)

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
